What offset should be on 18 X 8.5 rims???

My front rims kind of stick out a little on the front, so I 've been wondering for those of you who's got 18x8.5, what offset do y'all have? do they all stick out a little or it all depends on the offset you got?

I think I got 35 offset on my Momo's but I think someone said I can go + or - on the offset, to take some of the metal on the special machine? is that true?

The reason Im asking is because Im thinking going w/ 245/40/18 Pirelli P 0's next time and I know it will stick out even more then.

So correct me if I'm wrong, 35 mm would be more into your wheel fender rather then 40mm that would stick out little more? or opposite?

Opposite... 35 sticks out more than 40... I have the exact size tire/rim you are posting about... I would go 38-40... may have a little rubbing at full turns...

Now im getting little clear on this...I was always confused on offset size. Are you saying you may have some rubbing w/ 38-40 mm or 35mm?

And another q: will I be able to have someone work on my rim to make it 38 or 40mm? and if so, how much would it cost me?

I don't have ANY rubbing with my 35mm offset... I just wished it could be tucked in a little bit (in front). I looked under my car with the wheels turned fullyly and it appears I have the 5mm clearance for 40mm offset... but I haven't actually tried it.
