Got Spoiler Repainted - Now I Need New Clips!

The clearcoat was coming off so I had it professionally repainted for $50. Unfortunately, they made a mess of the four outer spoiler snap fasteners. They lost two, one broke at the spoiler and they epoxied it on and the other wouldnt snap into the trunk lid.

I'm sure this isn't the first time someone here has had this issue. Do I need four new fasteners or four new fasteners AND the trunklid receptors too? (And how the heck would I get those out?) Can I get them cheap online?

Yeah the bolts are just fine, its the plastic dealies that I need. I certainly don't want to fork over another $50 for some plastic bits.

they're all availabe at the dealer.

they're cheap... real cheap.

for the trunk lid grommets, the easiest way to get them out is to poke them through (from the top) with a flat head screwdriver and give them a little bit of a pry. they'll come out real easy.

from experience, i'd recommend replacing the whole of the fasterner assemblies.

Good info - I'll order the four fasteners and four receptor grommets.

If they screwed it up, why don't you have them fix it?

Ideally, but considering he only charged us $50 (since we have always used him for body work) I thought I could take the trouble of getting some clips. It holds fine, it doesn't shake at highway speeds, but there's a good 1/8" or more of separation on each end that you can clearly see from the side of the car looking back. He also gave me some touch up paint to fill in some rock chips here and there.

Did you click the link and read it? I gave you the part numbers.

Yeah I got em. I'm just not thrilled with paying another $50 to get them from the dealer. I wish there was a place I could get them cheap online...

Why dont you just put silicone.

About the same resistance force as the clips. Easy to remove AND it makes no vibration if you have a sound system.
Plus, no rust on your trunk by the screws holes.

Some will say thats ghetto, maybe, but it works fine and nobody can tell.

Clear silicone for outside home doors/ windows, use the strongest one.

I may just silicone it. Its not like I'll have to remove it again. Now that its repainted its pristine - the deep evergreen is just gorgeous.

So clear silicone - just squirt it under there, vice it down and let it sit overnight? Sounds good to me.

I don't have a sound system, just the factory Bose unit.

You can usually find a discount online. I ended up buying something from http://www.nissanparts.cc/ for cheaper than my dealer had. Also, DaveB (member on here) can get some of these parts for about the same price as above.

Also, this part is going to sound stupid. But you really should know that the nissan parts diagram that is used has some part numbers swapped. The parts are the black rubber spacers. The inner rubber spacers (for the bolts) are swapped w/the outer rubber spacers (for the grommet and plastic piece). So..... if you need the spacers, order the opposite part number. It was a big headache for me, but hopefully you can bypass that crap.

The female plastic piece and the male plastic piece are the correct part numbers.

Yeah, thats what I did. You have 4 spots to put silicone. I tried to remove it, and its way stronger than the clips.

You still have the 2 center screws? If yes, its a plus, you are more than safe.

ever green 96... same as mine, pretty rare in my country.

Yeah I have all four bolts for the two inner posts. Im just concerned because the ends hover 1/8" over the trunk and the silicone will have to hold it down and counteract this upward force.

Thank you Org~ Thank you JSutter

Just to let you know this thread (as well the 2005 Spoiler Screws link) is still providing value to a member in 2013.

I used Epoxy to re-seat one of my four screw posts - that I had to yank out of the wing due to corrosion - and I found the end clips and grommets at http://www.nissanparts.cc/
