Only 3000 miles left...

..till 300,000 miles!
On the to do list (yeah, I'm gonna keep it and get it back in shape to be my fun, get-away-from-it-all vehicle.
Tranny rebuild
Clutch (third)
Injector cleaning-(never been done)
Plug Change (fourth since I've had it)
EGR (second time)
IACV clean (second time)
Suspension (never been done)

She's getting old and getting a bit slower, but still runs good!
As I get $$ saved for the tranny rebuild, I'm thinking seriously of asking some of the experienced folk on here to do it for me. Will travel a bit. I'll check back when the time comes.

d@mn at 300k miles!

don't you think it be more efficient and smarter to just buy a newer used car?

old is gold and as far as a car is concerned his 300k engine might be better than some of ours 150k mile engines.

I was waiting for this! I do have another car, and the Max is paid for. I tried to sell it, but I couldn't. My other vehicle is not as "entertaining" as the Max is and I realized I couldn't do without a manual transmission to keep the rust off so to speak. It'll see some track days (already had it on track several times already), also plan to put a roll bar in it, change teh seats out, etc. Long-term project/toy.

I have never had any bodywork done on the car. I replaced the radiator around three years ago and the support was fine. The car has been in NC all it's life having been purchased new in Raleigh before I got it with about 65,000 miles on it. Here's a pic along with others here:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/sounbwo...7600904583001/
I'd say about 80 to 90% of the miles I've put on it have been highway miles. I used to run an 85 mile commute (one way) every day for 3.5 years. Even now my commute is 30 miles one way, so the car rarely sees short/stop/go trips.
It ain't at 300,000 yet, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

Thats pretty impressive man, 300k. Your max is black like my old 97 SE was, that I miss so much. Keep it running.

I'd keep it. Mine only has 75,300k but I'm seriously planning on keeping it for as long as I can. No one wants to pay what I want for it (it is/was for sale).

Congrats and heres to another 300k .

I have about 210k on my max, and it's running smoothly. I'm also surprised my transmission is holding up since I abuse my car a lot.. power sliding/180's/360's and all that. Gotta stop =/

I don't think so. If I go to the salvage yard and get one, I'm going to have to spend a LOT to get it running properly; it'll have less miles, but more issues. Like I said earlier, the car's paid for and I have another vehicle anyways.
Since the Max is running, I can fix it when I need/want to. It's going to be an ongoing project car, so I'll take my time and work on it as needed and when I want to (and when the economy lets me-lol). I think I'll still be ahead than getting a salvaged/junk unit.

Thanks for the good wishes.
I really cannot say enough about how the car and how even now, it still runs with what has been MINIMUM service. The car has not been babied, and sometimes been mistreated, and still, it goes.
For example: I have NEVER had the A/C serviced. It still cools well (takes a little longer) but once the interior is cool, it's fine. IRREGULAR oil changes (I don't condone this, but sometimes you have to stretch it....I've gone up to 9000 miles between oil changes and the oil, while dirty, was not as black as the oil that I've seen out other cars I've owned that had significantly less mileage-I change oil at around 5000 miles regularly now).
I've always used Redline MT-90 in the transmission, and it's only been changed twice, when the second tranny was put in and when the clutch had to be changed in said transmission later on.
It just runs.

Damn your almost there. 220K here and still running like a champ. Just some rough idle. Nothing that a little IAVC/EGR/TB cleaning can't fix.

I reached 306k two days ago and today I'm at 306,300 lol... oil comes out still almost looking like honey just a bit darker but nowhere near black. I've actually stretched this oil change an extra 300 miles but I checked to make sure it was full and its still topped off and I havent put any oil in there.

I've made a lot of newer cars look bad, my engine is actually quieter than a lot of newer cars out there. Its not completely quiet but for the miles its impressive. I may tear apart one day and make sure t-chain tensioner is alright

300,000 miles today!!

Made it to 300,000 today!! It probably already turned it because I have an erratic VSS, so sometimes I'll look down and the speedo will not be working...Anyway.

Wow, that's pretty amazing the car is lasting so long. Congrats!

I worked out the math and at my current rate, it'll take me 11 more years to get up to 300,000 miles.

Same here. 11.4 more years at 1,800 miles a month (current amount on average that I drive per month). I'm at 78,300 right now lol.
