Brake problem a few questions
Brake problem a few questions
Changed my front pads yesterday went with the Axxis pads. So i've done it a few times so i know what im doing. Problem is i had a diffcult problem sliding the pads into the cailper itself usually i dont. Like when you pull the pads out it's suppose to slide out easily with the new pads you gotta struggle to pull them out. So i got them in, and im using the method of braking them in. But my pedal feels ****ty bascially spongy. I havnt bleed the brakes since i had the car about a year and put about 6k on the car. So im gonna bleed the brakes and see if it helps. Wanted to know if DOT4 Super ATE brake fluid is good to use?

Anyways, just bleed the brakes.....any dot3/4 brake fluid is good....i tend to use castrol....i don't know about just dot4 super ate..i usually go with dot 3/4...can't really go wrong with that...
Bleed the brakes, report back.
Skip the ATE stuff, just go with Valvoline's synpower brake fluid assuming you can find it at your local Autozone, Pepboys etc, it's discontinued and supplies are running out. Exceeds the standards, and won't break your bank.
ATE is great fluid, and will work just fine, it's just pricey IIRC.

The best price I can get on ATE is $11/liter. If you have some, by all means feel free to use it. I like that I can stock the gold and blue and alternate to ensure a complete bleed.
Like Wizard said, it's not worth making a special order for it. You can get good brake fluid at the parts store for a lot less. Unless you take your car to the track and drive it to the point of boiling the fluid, the exact type of fluid won't matter as much as how long it's been in the car.

I have a question for you guys. Over a year ago, when i brought my car in to put the SS brake lines in; the mechs all called me crazy for asking them to use ATE super blue fluid. They said it was DOT 4, and our cars only take DOT3. One of the mechs said that he did that switch once, and lost his brakes while going 60+MPH. He said that you can't use a DOT 4 fluid because of the higher boiling point. What can you says about this?

DOT 5 is what you cannot use, and what I believe they were thinking of.
That was the problem. It said DOT4/5 compatible on the bottle. That's what caused all the ruckus. As for wirelessdude04, i just had all four brakes done and made shuire that i had all new hardware to go with the new pads (shims & clips) for all four corners. Also, giving those things a good lube works wonders as well. That you know everything's new and is sitting properly.
Oh yeah, thanks TunerMax
