You don't really have much of a choice when replacing those, it's pretty much the dealer if you want a direct replacement bulb...$5 each, last I saw.

Just go to Radio Shack, get PN 272-1092, they should fit in place of the existing bulbs. I've got a few packs on my desk here just waiting to be put in. According to them, lamp type is 7219 and bulb type is T1.

They're less than $2 for a pack of 2, so cheap enough to give it a shot, see if you like them.

FWIW, when I just searched:
Quote: the ac controls - radio shack 272-1092 bulbs
Quote: You can go to Radio Shack and get 2 packages of bulbs.

#7219 Micro Lamp

272-1092 pkg of 2.
$1.79

The bulbs on the AC Control unit are bigger and have a blue filter. The radio shack bulbs fit in the socket without modification. However the blue filters do not fit. If you don't use the blue filters, the illumination is orange instead of blue. You can use the same lamp for the other lights like the hazard switch if you blew that out too.

I just installed mine. Apparently I blew them all out when I jostled everything by removing the radio to fix the display.
Quote: Don't bother with the dealership. Chances are that they will tell you they don't stock the bulbs and instead they'll try to sell you the entire climate control unit - that's what they told me. I walked out and went to radioshack.

I bought these bulbs. Radio shack part # 272-1092. They were in stock at the local store. didn't have to order them:
http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...entPage=search

Installation is a breeze. No soldering, no resistors. Remove old ones & replace.

IIRC, there are 4 bulbs in the unit. The radio shack bulbs are slightly thinner than the OEM bulbs. So, the blue latex covers that line the OEM bulbs will be a little to big to fit snugly over the radio shack bulbs. I was able to rig something up though - I tried a dab of Krazy glue but it just made a huge mess. IIRC, I just put the plastic cover over the bulb , stuffed it back into the hole and called it a day. I should also note that the blue covers were practically seized onto my OEM bulbs. When I tried to remove a couple of them, they basically disintegrated in my fingers.

As far as light output, do not worry about the bulbs being slightly smaller than OEM. The radio shack bulbs are cheaper, work just fine and appear to be much more resilient than the OEM bulbs.

Quote: I had this problem about 3 months ago. I went to Radio shack and bought these bulbs...Radio Shack P/N : 272-1092
Bulb number : #7219

They seem to work fine for right now....I plan on continuing my Blue led project and attack the Auto Climate control pretty soon
Quote: Yes. Your buttons should light up. The bulbs are out. They are # 272-1092 from Radio Shack, I got them for $1.49 ea. They are pretty easy to install. Note how the burnt out bulbs are wired on those little rubber pieces. It doesn't matter which of the leads goes where, as these are incandescent, polarity makes no diff. Don't get the leads tangled and short out something.

...what? Can't even decipher the first part of that post.

Those aren't LEDs, they're regular bulbs. This thread is specifically about not putting LEDs in there...

Probably just to diffuse the light, or slightly alter the color.

I used small pieces of tape to keep the blue rubber covers on the bulbs as the Radioshack ones are noticeably small than the oem ones. It was very easy. It isn't easy getting them off the original bulbs without tearing them though...

They go in exactly like the old ones came out.

Unless of course you're referring to your A33, in which case you bumped a 6 month old thread in the wrong section for a discussion that's irrelevant to you

Your bulbs are likely different. Find a thread in the correct subforum.

Yea, a lot of people ended up just super-gluing them on. I just wanted to make sure that I could replace them if/when they burn out like the originals did.

I used the silicone because I was sure it could take the heat and wouldn't have vapor issues once set. I believe the colored covers are silicone also so it just made sense.

For those who would be looking for a standard bulb for your climate control, hazard light, rear defroster buttons, and ash tray light. (I'm sure these bulbs are used in other areas that I have not had to replace yet) I went to www.mcmaster.com. I ordered trade number bulb #7219. McMaster part#1505K414, 10 bulbs for $9. No need for resistors just install and go. Also since you destroy the little blue color silicone covers on the original bulbs I ordered colored light bulb covers McMaster part# 16925K11. 10 covers for $4. I ordered the blue but they also come in amber, green, red, and yellow. I just cut the length to what the bulb was that protruding out of the socket. I am more than satisfied to have all my lights working again.

Are they the same brightness as stock?

FWIW the Radio Shack bulbs just about the same price, also no shipping and are stocked at most stores.

I deal with McMaster Carr almost everyday, so it is a matter of easy to obtain for me. I can not tell the difference between the brightness of the OEM bulb and these bulbs. I changed two in my climate control ( If I remember right there is a total of four), one in my rear defroster button and I believe it was in either my ashtray (I do not smoke, but if it's not working I want it fixed!) or the auto shifter panel P,R,N,D etc. Just pulled the socket removed the bulb, replaced the bulb in the socket, trimed the leads (the leads are about two inches long new), placed the silicone boot over the bulb. Plug and Play.
What worked the best though was the little silicone boots that I bought. I just had to trim to length, and they fit like a glove. I did only buy the standard blue, since that is what our cars have. I would love to see how the other colors would work.

Damn, I need these too. Put a headunit in a 99 and as soon as I plugged everything back in, the AC control lights wouldn't come on...
