O2 Simulator / Fed Spec Y-Pipe on Cali Spec

Hey Guys,

My friend/fellow maxima owner is in the process of picking up a new car and happens to have a fed spec warpspeed y-pipe that he never installed laying around that he offered to me since he no longer needs it. The problem is that I have a cali-spec y-pipe and after doing some searching on the site have learned that if I do the install, it will result in the Three Way Catalyst CEL code to be thrown due to the lack of the pre-cats.

I also dug up some of the posts regarding the O2 simulators people have used to rig the ECU to keep the CEL off when doing the install of a fed spec pipe on a cali spec or with the cali spec to fed spec conversion.

My question is, which of the O2 simulators will I need to purchase in order to keep the CEL off so I can pass emissions? There is a single output or dual output model on the site and I'm unsure which one I will need.

Also, if anyone has a write up or have done the install of the simulator, I'd appreciate any input as to how to go about it. I'd love to utilize this free y-pipe and spend a little cash to keep codes from being thrown.

Thanks!

1: you need dual type (you have to simulate 2 sensors)
2: you also need to:
either keep the sensors somehow connected
or get 2 resistors to simulate the heated elements in the sensors
3: you'll probably get a write-up from wherever you're buying the simulators

I did this. It's easy to do. But it is my understanding that Catman no longer sells the O2 sims. ? You could just have two extra bung holes placed in your Y-Pipe.

You need fed spec manifolds also. That pipe will not bolt up to your Cali spec system.

Is this true for all cali spec maximas or just the 99? Starting to get confused on if I can do this install or not. Someone help me clarify this.

Have a fed spec y?? That's all you will need in addition to what you've mentioned.

fed spec 99 is similar to cali spec; this means that the precats are in the exhaust manifolds BUT (here's the problem) because one of them is very close to the lower end, the connecting part of the regular y pipe is a lot wider on one side of the engine (I don't remember which one) and an aftermarket Y piep won't fit; therefore you have two options:
1: replace just one manifold (the one containing the precat located higher) with an aftermarket header and you'll need a single ouptput simulator
2: replace both manifolds AND the Y pipe and you'll need a dual output simulator

I did this.

I got a dual universal O2 simulator from O2Simulators.com

I then wired it up and zip tied both the O2 sensors that aren't 'in use' under the radiator support (behind the headlights - you'll see the room).

You will need to extend one of the O2's to reach the bottom of the fed. pipe.

Otherwise, get Nissan gaskets and you'll be good to go.

Nope, not with a Fed spec engine....

And yes, the rear is the same as Cali.
