i frickin hate the little vw sounding horn we have, i rented a 2008 mitsubishi galant that had a great sounding horn. question is, what can i upgrade to, and who makes a good sounding horn for our cars???

 

If you like the Galant horn, then get a Galant horn. You'll probably need to fab a bracket to hold it, and do a little wiring but there you go.

 

$25 set of air horns from Advance Auto or AutoZone. Fab a small bracket, and mount them where the alarm's horn is (in front of timing cover). The stock horn can be mounted to the same bracket (my stock horns are painted blue, and one is visible in the pic).


Disregard the 2 stainless lines above the airhorns. Those were from when I was trying to plumb my PCV catch can with stainless lines. That project isn't complete yet.
The compressor is mounted to an existing bolt hole behind the washer fluid neck (I think a small bracket was needed, and I used small corner braces from a hardware store, but you can fab it out of anything)). A relay is needed so you won't keep blowing your horn fuse. The battery power line can be run from the battery (with an inline fuse), under the radiator support, and to the relay mounted to the bracket the horns are mounted to (relay is visible in pic above the left horn. I made a small aluminum bracket to mount it to the horns bracket for additional durability over the plastic). For the relay's signal wire, I spliced in to the existing alarm horn's wire. Since it is just a signal for the relay, it doesn't draw a lot of power, and my stock alarm horn still works. Ground can go to any of the ground wires near the washer tank neck.

The horns operate with the steering wheel horn button (just like your normal horns). They also sound if my alarm goes off. I added another stock horn behind my grille (so I have two stock horns behind the grille and one in the engine compartment, plus my dual air horn setup). Saying it is loud would be an understatement. It is definitely an attention getter (which is the point of any horn).

 

 

A lot uf us use the Healla horns, slightly better then the stock units.

I'm not sure if I got the same exact ones as in the link, but they look exactly like that.

Setup is as easy as wiring a few things (battery terminal, relay, and ground) and mounting them. I used the same spot where the front OEM horn was and mounted both off that hole. Then repositioned the front OEM one right next to the other OEM under the hood and spliced it in. All four work off the normal horn switch on the steering wheel and all four go off when the alarm is activated.

There are a lot of options, and Auto Zone or Advance Auto both have a selection of horns from universal factory replacements, to small upgrades, to larger upgrades as Dave Holmes posted

 

Anyone know if train horns are legal in georgia, an if I wanted to install a set, how would I go about doing that.

 

Purchase set.
Bolt set into desired location.
Wire up set per instructions.
Press horn button.

 

I am using Fiamm AM-80 snail type horns on my ride. The sound is really good, not that loud, just right for my Maxima.

You issue isn't connecting the horn, it's mounting it.

 

They are so $$ its ridiculous. I can find better uses for my money.
