Are you flat towing, or on a dolly?

If a dolly, put the front end up, if flat towing, just make sure it's in neutral, and lock the steering straight.

This is of course assuming that your sig concerns your current car, and you're a 5 speed. If you're a 4AT, you never want to flat tow the car.

Why not? Will it mess something up?

Think of it this way. Everything is lubricated by the ATF, and the ATF is only flowing when the pump is going. The pump is driven by the torque converter, which is driven by the engine. Same reason you can't push start autos these days...they used to have a rear oil pump as well, so you could actually push start it, but not anymore.

So you can flat tow it without worrying about it, but it'll have to be in neutral with the engine idling the whole time.

5MT is all splash lubricated, so it doesn't matter to flat tow it.

Well damn, thats not what I wanted to hear. I'm picking up a 98 SE this weekend and just planned on pulling it back since its not running. I guess I'll have to get a dolly now.

Well you could pull an axle if you really wanted to flat tow it. That or just take the risk, how far are you planning on towing it?

Its gotta travel about 30 miles. More than I'd feel comfortable with now.

Unless you're comfortable with the condition of the car I'd toss it on a flatbed. If you're comfortable and know the rear end is in good condition then the front end goes on a dolly

i do not have a tow dolly.. so i guess its flat tow(i assume flat tow means hooking my max to the tundra with no dolly).. i have to go about 20 miles and plan to do it like 2 in the morning to avoid traffic. mine is a 5 speed so that helps it seems.

so if i flat tow..i hook the front of the max to the rear of the Tundra?

Yes.

Or you could hook the front of the Tundra to the rear of the max, but it might look a bit odd pushing a maxima around.

But yes, with a 5MT you should be fine towing it around on the ground.

How exactly do you plan on towing it as far as hooking up to it? Are you gonna use a ghetto rope/chain style and just have someone in the Max steer while you pull it with the Tundra or are you going to pull it with an actual device meant for flat towing?

You can go to your local Uhaul and rent a dolly for like $50 i think? Google your area for tow dollies, you can find em anywhere for cheap. Even try Craigslist, try searching towning/hauling and see how much for a short dolly tow. Can't hurt. Better than ruining a possibly good automatic transmission.

EDIT: just saw its a stick, nevermind, flat towing in Neutral is ok.
