Is anyone else's paint as bad as mine?

Seriously, it's retarded. Aside from the minor scratches in the clear coat which are my fault from foolishness I have 3 major disaster areas. Keep in mind my car is Neptune Blue, so every mark shows up as white.

The front end is a disaster. It looks like someone stood 3 feet away and blasted a can of white spraypaint in the air. The hood and bumper cover are all chipped and abused.

Behind the wheels, no I don't have splashguards, same problem.

Rear bumper cover, the clear coat is peeling off !

On top of all this, I have a dent in my roof in front of my sunroof, and in the middle of my hood. Why you ask? Oh because my moron friend with the minor drinking problem climbed out the sunroof and rolled down the hood.

So the blue paint is spotless and shiny, but the trouble areas, really take away from the rest of it.

I have a price of $600 to do the nose and the rear bumper. I think in the spring I may do the whole car if I can for near $1000.

Just wanted to rant.

Bought my 97 SE used and the paint's pretty bad. The hood is really chipped up and there are a couple spots where it's deep enough to have rusted a little. And the swirl marks... don't get me started. I'm usually big on polishing and waxing but haven't brought myself to do it to this car. That's what I get for buying a black one I guess.

Bernie,

Maxima paint isn't the best. It scratches too easily and has no resistance to rock chips! My personal opinion is not to repaint. I never liked repainted cars as it never comes out right unless you spent a lot of money. Look into a paintless dent removal company. Many people say good things about this technique and you don't have to repaint!

G4 Maxima paint really sucks.
Stare at the car too hard and the paint will
start to peel.

Seriously, this is one area where Nissan can really learn from the competition Toyota or Honda.

I have the same paint problems. Pits galore and my front bumper is pathetic. I just took 3M medium grit rubbing compound to it using an electric buffer. I then hand waxed using Shine 2001. I tell ya, that process did a real nice job with some of the minor scratches and pits. The bumper even improved. The rest of the finish is smoooothhh.

I have a 97 Superblack and for the most part the paint looks OK. The hood on the other hand could use some work! Just stinks that every pebble that hits it does something to the paint.

Hey guys, my '98 I30T suffers with the same inferior paint, and being maroon it really shows. The front curve of the hood almost looks a different color with all of the stone chips, and as BlackMax97 mentioned, my front bumper is pathetic. I have tried everything out there to make it look better, but haven't found the cure yet. I might try the rubbing compound and wax on the bumper.

Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Eh, it happens...

My front end is pretty bad, but being beige, not much is really noticed. My front lower bumper feels really rough, down by the fog lights. I tried to apply some clearcoat restore pre-wax and then wax, but the wax just dried/stained on there. With Nebraska winters and streets, I'm not all that concerned about the front. The rest of the car is OK - the rear has some nuances, but since its beige, you can only see it if you're up real close. Lots of people I know still think it looks like a 'new car'.

I have a dark green 97 SE and chips and scratches are easy to get. I absolutely recommend 3M compound, it costs more but dosen't haze the paint like the cheaper compounds do. Meguiars Scratch-X has worked good for me on lighter scratches. On scratches, you want to use the least abrasive product possible. Also don't use this stuff in direct sunlight. The surface of your car must be cool to the touch.

Isn't it more the fault of a poor clearcoat than the paint with our
problems?

Maxima paint SUCKS...

My 4th Gen paint is washed every week and waxed every month and it is still chipping and the polished surface it used to have is going away. My friend's 5th Gen is also cleaned on a regular basis and it sucks as well. He reminds me every day .

My lakeshore blue sucks. You can scratch to the white underneath with your fingernail!!!(bumpers) The hood has chips all over too. I tried to scratch a Taurus bumper the other day with my fingernail and couldn't. Mine you can dig right in. Worst paint I have ever seen.
