My Beige GLE has a faded black pinstripe. I'm afraid to take off for fear or a permanent mark. I wish the previous owner spent the few extra bucks and had the pinstripe painted on instead of the cheap peel and stick kind.

i got my car used and it didn't have a pinstripe. I think it looks better without it though. especially on a superblack car
As I was told, it was a dealer option

and BTW, you can remove it safely without leaving a mark.. it's like shaving your emblems. You can use a hairdryer, and peel it off slowly, then get some of that goo remover stuff and go over it, wash the car and wax/polish it.. and POOF no mark I didn't even do all that, when I had my 3rd gen I just went out and peeled the pin stripes off.. then washed the car a few times and it faded...

The first mod I did was the remove my pin stripe. I hate those things. The vinyl eventually fades and gets weathered and it looks like crap. Then when you go to take it off, you're left with where it is unevenly faded on the paint. Those little strips are tacky as hell anyway.

Oh yeah plan to buff/wax your car after you do take the pin stripe off. B/c the paint under the stripe is going to be cleaner/not dulled. So by buffing it, it will blend together.

Body Shop

The stupid body shop I had my car fixed at before, cleared over them so now there is really no chance for me to take mine off

My car is purple metallic silver and i have the black pinstripe. now what sucks is when i took it out, the entire thing would not peel off, and there is nice groove in the body... kinda like someone keyed the entire length of the car. Its not that visible from a distance, but up close its not too pleasant to the eye

So far my conclusion is that when buying a new car, decide if pin stripe is wanted; if a used car and it's already there, decide if you really want to take it off. Personally I don't quite like it, no matter what color of the car is. Also some dealer charges for it (on new car) although it's easy to take that small charge off the final invoice.

Park your car in the hot sun or if you don't have ne hot sun then get a heat gun not a hair dryer b/c it will take for ever, i mean a hair dryer will work but plan on spends a few hours on it. Then just peel the thing off, it will keep breaking if you go to quick. Take your time with the peeling, then take some goof-off for ne glue that might be left over. Then I would buff the car to blend the mark, the stripe is going to leave (the mark is going to not be dull like the rest of the car caused by the sun), then after a nice buffing you will be very happy that you decided to take that crap off your car.

Dont have them on my black Max. Personally I think they look horrible on all Max's, but especially on black.

Pinstripes no more...

I shaved my pinstriped about 2 months ago. I could swear I have one of the most sun-bleached ruby Maxima out there. But when I took them off and waxed the area where it was, nobody could tell there ever was a pin-stripe there, even me! I was so surprised it wasn't a different shade/color! Now I king of miss them, because they seemed to add a little character to the car. But I have the satisfaction of knowing I can always put them back on without problems, and I can't always take them off without problems.

I have a 97 Neptune Blue SE came with tan pinstripe that matches the leather perfectly. Just got the car back after 5 weeks with a brand new paint job and had them throw it on there because I guess I dont know my car without it. Also the paint shop over sprayed on 2 of my 18" Niche Bellas and had to replace them...the funny thing was it was minimal and I got it off with alot of hard elbow grease. So I now have 6 Niche Bellas. Sorry to get off topic just had some comments.

ditto, the previous owner did. i didn't realize it until i tried taking it off. now i've got ps here but, not there. so, i'm in search of an inexpensive bodyshop. it looks ok, but like it better without it.

Re: Does your Maxima have a pin stripe?

My Rosewood 96' SE had a black one, but i took it off, b/c it was falling off at parts, looks cleaner with out it and when u would wax it some little parts would get stuck in it

I have a black max and my first mod was pinstripping. Had it painted on (peel and stick sucks). The silver pinstrip looks good with my shiny black max. Plus I have a little design on the front corner panels that make it look even better.

i had a pin stripe on my GXE and i hated it so i removed it. Guess what i found...signs of previous owner damage. The paint was reapplyed but it was faded and smoothed into the rest of the paint so there is a seam where the pin stripe was and then i noticed a bad bondo job by the windshield or the corner of the fender...When you buy a GXE with a pin stripe remove it on the dealership floor to see if it had previous damage...

Disclaimer: In no way, shape or form, am i saying that you should physically remove a pin stripe on the dealership floor. My comments are to be used for novelty purposes and are not the opinions of this forum

Pinstripe!

My white 98 SE came with a tan/gold pinstripe. From some angles it looks ok, but my previous experience is that somehow part of the stripe will get cut and then it will look terrible. I think about removing the stripe especially after reading the other posts, but I don't know if over 3 years of Arizona sun can be overcome. Has anyone removed the pinstripe off a white Maxima in a sun-intense part of the country?
