Help installing factory cd in a 1997 max

Yes, I did the search; most stuff applies to installing aftermarket stereos.

Org member Weasel was kind enough to ship a factory CD player for the GXE (non-Bose) HU. Just has one wire connector in the back.

I haven't taken anything on the dash apart yet on this vehicle, and thought I better check with you folks before dis-assembling my kid's car!

Anything I need to know about or be cautious with?

1997 GXE with the factory HU, adding factory CD in the slot under the HU.

why dont you just go with an aftermarket head unit? i put one in mine and it works great, doesnt look tacky at all. im sure your son would much rather have a brand new radio than just a stock one!

check this : http://www.installdr.com/InstallDocs/Nissan/Maxima.html

its kind of a pain to get the damn pieces apart because there is hardly any screws and i was worried i was gonna break off some of the clips, but it all turned out fine.

Couple of reasons;
-I like the stock look, and much simpler to operate
-The price was RIGHT!

I could go all out and install a nice HU, amps, some quality speakers, etc.
But hey, its a $2300 car, I'm not gonna invest $500 in it for sound equipment.

If you're lucky, it'll be prewired. Can't really tell until you get in there, though.

I'm thinking more than likely it is.

Here is a set of photo on how to install a CD changer:

Pix were taken to help the buyer of my changer to install it in his car. I installed this changer in my car ten years ago. It was removed when I installed an iPod kit needing the CD changer interface on the HU.

You will need the trunk mounting bracket if you don't have that already.

Yes, looks like it was the factory single-disk in dash unit for the non-Bose stereo. I looked at the Audio Doctor's instruction pdf, not sure I want to do that chore in the near future. Be just my luck to break off some of the plastic clips on a car this old.

Nissans are definitely better than Toyota in that department. I haven't broken any clips and wiring connectors yet on my '98. Not that you shouldn't be careful with them. My car is actually in San Diego at SDSU. It makes the SD-SJ trip three to four times each year.
