possible part-out... How to??

I got a friend who has a wrecked 96 SE that has several parts I need, and I should be able to get it for a song. I'm considering buying the whole car, taking the parts I need, and then selling the rest to cover my costs. I should be able to transport it and have a place to put it where the neighbors won't complain, so I guess my question deals mostly with what to do with the shell after I get done with it?

Any helpful hints from one of the dozens who have gone through this? Is it worth the trouble?

Good question, I'm curious how others have handled that situation. Thinking about doing the same thing myself, but don't want my yard to look like a redneck junkyard...

Get the yellow pages and look up some scrap yards or metal salvage businesses. They'll likely pick up the shell for free.

You can also send a PM to "Maxima Joe" aka fanaticrockford, who has parted out hundreds of 4th gens. He'll be able to give you more insight.

i can give u some advice, when i junk my cars sometimes people buy the shells for their own use, if i call the junkyard they sometimes want to charge to take the shell since they really dont have anything to make money from, so after a while i have found one guy who takes the shells away for free and he makes something form crushing it. just remember the easiest and safest way of doing all this is HAVE A TITLE FOR THE CAR, without a title depending where u live its become quiet a hassle getting rid of the car. Here in NY, some take it for free, some dont take it without the tiltle. Good Luck, oh yeah its alot of fun chopping up these cars for parts.

San Diego is near a port so I can almost guarantee they have hulk haulers that will haul the shell for $25 to free so they can sell the scrap steel.
