Replacing Powersteering Hoses
I did mine while replacing my front suspension. Kinda tight to get to but yes the tire will need to be removed. Not sure about the fender gaurd...it was already off the car. You will need a 24mm socket for the high pressure hose. Drains as much fluid off as possible before hand...plenty of threads on how to do that.
good luck

I'm getting both my pressurized and return hoses replaced on thursday night, the first time I'm paying someone to work on my car as the winter just won't stop. Quoted 50 bucks labour - I'll be lingering so I'll let you know how it went.
I think Im gonna get a shop to do the work. I dont have the tools to do this job, or the patience.
Gonna get um to do the strut mount w/ bearings as well.
Wonder what the labor would be to replace the boots on the rack?

5 months later and my daily 'get my hands cold' checking the PS fluid routine is no longer. I was having to top up fluid every second day, driving only about 10-15 kms/day.
I buy a pressurized power steering hose, $77 CDN after my mechanic assessed the situation a few weeks ago. Turns out, I didnt need it. The leak appeared to be coming out of the left side (looking at the front of the car) of the rack, and we thought it was the rack. Jacked up the car and turned the steering wheel side to side while he was under it watching, and finally spotted a fair sized drop coming out of the sheared end of one of the smaller rubber hoses that attaches to the rack (suction/return hose? not sure, but not pressurized) - the one with the metal bubble inlet thing that the hose slides over onto, not the bolt. The fluid was coming down and accumulating onto the rack, so it appeared as though one of the seals were shot, but it isn't.
To fix it, he cut the hose with an air tool saw (without draining the system i might add), caught the fluid in a bucket, and took the clamps and hose off. cut a new hose to length, and clamped them on over the bubble inlet things. Straightforward, but dirty. I've got a 99 w/ ABS, and maybe other models are easier to work on, but he did it all from underneath the car after trying unsuccessfully from the top. Assessing where the leak was from and getting past the crumbling heat shields took longer than actually changing the hose.
Lessen learned, to figure out whats up before you buy anything, rinse off the mess, and get someone under the car with it jacked up while you rotate the wheels to figure out where fluid is being lost.

Got a question: I have a low howl/groan I believe coming from the new ps pump made by cardone. i hear it moreso in the car.
I asked the mechanic, he said it's a little bit of air, and it will go away eventually.
I was wondering how long, because Ive driven over 80 miles, and it's still there. Ive even popped the top of the reserve, and did full turn lock to lock, and it's still there.
Any ideas?
