Headlight Eyelids

Does anyone have a pix of this on the car yet? Opinions on them...Hate it? Love it? Greg is selling them for $65 by the way. Wondering if I should buy them or not.....

I dont have good feeling bout it. First of all its $65 plus its not a bolt on, you have to use some sort of glue to stick them on. SO if you had to replace any of the lamps, it would be pain in the butt. I am sure it will look phat and all but i think there are some alternatives to it. I wish he would have gotten this made bolt on instead of glue on. But all my props go out to greg to keep trying to get AF for maximas...

All eyelids that are good quality and look good are glue on. Have you ever seen eyelids for bmw's and audi's? they look great. What do you mean by bolt on anyway? Plus the Hamann eyelids for BMW's run around $90 if you get a great deal. This is a good price.

I just ordered eyelids from Greg yesterday, should be here by the end of next week. The glue on idea didn't appeal to me either until I talked to my buddy with a BMW 330xi and he told me his are glue on along with all others. Im sure they'll look phat on my black Max.

My wife has glue ons on her Jetta. No problems with coming loose. But 65 bucks? That's ridiculous for about 1 1/2 oz's plastica and a few drips epoxy. I think I'll model a pair myself before I pay that much. Think I'll wait until I have enough money for the carbon hood. That way they'll match.

$65 is not much at all considering most eyelids for Bimmers and Audis cost in the $80-90 range. Also, these are the first molded eyelids available for the Maxima. If companies start coming out with them left and right, the price may drop, but for now $65 is a damn good price. When I saw that Greg was going to be coming out with them, I was willing to pay up to $100 for them just because they are going to be such a rare mod (around here anyway) and I was surprised to see they are only $65. Just my .02, I dont think you should complain about price from Greg unless it is justified.

I think I already stated the justification. The eylids are teeny tiny pieces of plastic. Greg may be paying 64.99 himself, but that doesn't make $65 a good deal.

Like I said. I'll wait until I can afford the CF hood. Then I'll make the mold. When I get the hood installed and can see which direction the fibers are oriented I will make the lashes match or contradict depending on my mood.

What you can do is get some Carbon Fiber vinyl from Shadow, it's durable and flexible, looks just like real carbon fiber and it's very very thin. I got some for about 4$ per square foot and it's great, I put it on my chrome door handles and dashboard, has been on for probably a month now and it sticks great and looks great. It flexes so you can put it on the eye lids

Anyways, I think 65$ is kinda pricey for 2 pieces of unpainted plastic strips, however, I guess Greg can charge 165$ for them if he wants to, since no one else makes them. Plus it costs him to get these made so I bet the price is justifyable. (sp?)

$65 actually is a pretty fair price. Sarona design is the only company that makes them for the Maxima, and usually in this market when only one company sells a item the price goes way up. Most eyelids for Hondas and Bimmers are at least $100 and all are glued on too.

I sold quite a few sets so far this week and am waiting to get pictures of them installed. As soon as I have them I will post them on my site.

These eyelids seem like they will glue as one big strip to corner/headlight lamp. so what happens if you want to change the corner bulbs?

As far as i know it is impossible to change the corner bulbs without taking them out and if you glue it together with one strip. It won't come out.

After all this only concerns the problem if the eyelids are glued on to both corner/headlight instead of snapping them in.

Please slap me if i don't know how they are installed

I bought the GTS carbon fiber covers. (not the sh*tty square ones, cirlces) i made the eyebrows and it comes a lot steeper than the one greg got, that one looks like a strip of tape. It looks real nice with the mesh grilles

hopefully i'll get a pic up soon.

Just made my own eye brows this weekened, just like that black max in the pic. Turned out pretty good, I thought. However I only found out that about Greg's eye lids this last fri, so If I knew earlier, I would have bought them from him, rather then making my own.

$65 is a pretty good price, considering that you pay about $50 for AVS or GTS headlight covers, and it cost me another $30 for the transparent smoke color spray to do the lids.

Anyone, wants them? I'll sell them to you. Just made them. Looks great!

Why would I use faux carbon when I have scrap pieces of the real thing from my sub enclosure? Mine will attach like on a '94 escort I drove for a week while redoing my elecrical system. They attach to the underside of the hood. If you pop your hood you will see a small piece of weatherstipping above the headlights. It is held on with 4 push plugs. I'll either use the same 4 holes or drill a few new holes a little further back depending on which location seats more firmly. I will wait until at least spring when the days are longer and warmer. That way I will also have my sub installed and will know exactly which fabrics are scrap: twill weave, plain weave, carbon/kevlar twill, 8HS weave, or plain kevlar blue or gold.

If i was a manufacturer thinking about making products for the maxima, and i saw people complaining about $65 for eyelids, I would be very reluctant to ever consider making anything for the maxima community.

Plus, buying molded eyelids, and making homemade ones don't look the same.

i believe $65 is a fine price. although, making the eyelids from gts carbon fiber headlight covers would look really sweet with a carbon fiber hood

"Plus, buying molded eyelids, and making homemade ones don't look the same." - I guess how they look depends on who makes them and how they want them to look. If you want them to look like a mass production product, that's easy enough. I complain about $65 dollars because material cost for the DIY consumer is probably $5, definitely less than $10. The mass production companies with their huge investment in materials should have a cost of 10-25% or less of the consumer cost.
