turning rotors

Should the rotors be turned on or off the car, it doesn't say in the Chilton either way, should I assume off the car then? thanks

They need to be done off the car on a brake lathe. If you brake hard or drive enthusiastically, I would just replace the rotors as your brakes will fade and warp easier than before. Pay now or pay later, basically.

Nissan turns them on the car with a special machine tool setup. This assures your rotor is true to the hub. I think they charge around 65 bucks to turn them for you.

I didn't know that, that's kinda cool. But for $65, I'd still just replace the rotors.

Nissan wanted to charge me 450-500 for a full brake job. that includes turning all rotors and replacing all pads. i just bought pads and had my mechanic do the job without turning the rotors. i figure i will buy new rotors soon anyways.

If you're rotors aren't warped and are in decent shape, why not just leave them on? I've run 80,000 miles on some cars without doing anything to the rotors and they were fine. Dealer's are always trying to rip us off!
