Fun Quick Fix
So, when I went out to my car this mornign to go to work....click, click, click. Not a gig. So i popped the hood to have a look and my negitive terminal was as loose as it could be. I thought it was my ignition switch at 1st so I replaced that with one I had laying around and still nothing. Tightened the neg terminal and still nothing. Turns out, with the negitive terminal that loose, there was no ground for the starter solenoid and it burnt out. Nissan wanted $500 for a new starter and the local parts place wanted $169. I was supposed to buy my new rims today
So I went down to the parts place and picked this up. It isn't pretty, yet, but it got me to work and for $10.

I did the same thing to my old 240sx, but I put it on the floor near the clutch (but out of the way) so that it was hidden. That was back when I was still in college and broke as hell. It is actually a really fun thing to have when other ppl are in the car.

Works for me. So you need to key to turn on the ignition and then push the button for the starter.
You just went back about 60 years. That's how they did it in the 40's. Only the push button was on the floor.
Now you're seriously "Old School"
To be honest most people won't be able to steal your car now because they won't be able to figure out how to start it.

ok...there was a click coming from the fuse panel next to my left leg when i turned the key to start it. I just assumed I burnt the solenoid out, just like it did to me twice before when it wasn't grounded.

He's right. If the pushbutton works then it's not the solenoid. You either burnt the contacts on the keyswitch itself or burnt a relay. Relay seems likely if you hear something under the dash.
Check the FSM for the correct relay. They usually aren't so expensive.
I wasn't thinking when I replied the first time. I was so excited about the old school button or I would have realized that it wasn't the solenod.

yea, painting them was an option I was thinking. I just have to figure out what colour. I want something that doesn't need to be cleaned everyday...ie black. my black car is hard enough to keep shiney. maybe a gun metal grey would look good with the black
