DASHKITS
ya ya I know some of you hate them, some of you love them but either way I am between the stock woodgrain(what is this called? Burlwood, Rosewood?) and getting a dash kit. I was thinking a dark marble. I did search and there hasnt been a dashkit post since 06 so its time.
Post your dashkit I wanna see!

yeah, burlwood. i'm not crazy about the color tone of the laminate, sometimes it seems a bit too redish i think. it works but it could flow a little better with my tan interior. however, burlwood on black interior looks pretty sweet, imo. so do the brushed aluminum kits.
here is a pic of mine (i know, my steering wheel is a bit rough.

Actual pieces, picked it up online, don't remember the company is was a while ago, ordered that finish custom. Again, ask any dash kit mfg. to make the Maxima kit in the Acure Black Marble finish. 3M makes that finish (they make almost all the dash kit finishes) and any dash kit company will cut out the Maxima dash pieces from that stock.
wooops sorry here mine.http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/m...g?t=1243899967
I had the stick on brushed alum dash kit for a few years and used to get all kinds of compliments from friends, both ones that appreciated cars and ones that couldn't have told you if it was oem or not. After time tho it yellowed out and got to look very ugly. The only saving grace I would tell myself is that it was soon going to match the exterior of my car, pebble beige. Since then I have removed all the pieces and installed the oem wood pieces. I think the wood looks much classier and gives it a luxury feel.

It's too bad your wood doesn't run all the way up the console like your aluminum kit did.....doesn't look finished IMO.
I hope you ditched the aluminum around the gauges too.....

All fake aluminum is gone. To the op learn from my mistake and don't waste your time with a stick on dash kit, at least an ex gf bought mine so it didn't cost anything
Yea I don't really get what nissan was thinking when the did the woodgrain. I could get a woodgrain climate control but they were only available in auto and I have manual. I guess they didn't do the clock and vents in wood cuz i30s had those vents that stuck up and out.

Another alternative to a dash kit is what I did just recently,..

The process is called hydro dipping and you can get pretty much anything you can dream of done to your parts, as long as they can be submerged in water.
And yes Wizard, I now have a wheel like yours, sorry. I got it for a really good deal and couldnt pass it up. 180.00 shipped.
Oh, and if anybody is interested in my old setup, dask pieces with kit already installed,..

Not following you here. Your kit is a stick on kit too, believe it or not. And, there are plenty of aftermarket kits that don't look cheap. Some do, some don't.
He followed in my footsteps is what he did.

Of all the steering wheels to get too....

Haha nice, I must have missed that in your MOTM pics. They look great. If you don't mind what does something like that run?
And flava I see you have a maunal climate control. You can still see the fan speeds it appears? They somehow block them from being painted in the dipping?
My old alum kit was stick on, the pieces I have now are the oem gle plastic wood pieces. I'll take your word, I just haven't seen a great long lasting kit.

I actually masked off all the items I didnt want covered in the dipping process. I used a hole puncher and cutout some small circles to go over those areas. I also taped off the circular area for the control **** as well as the labled hot/cold sliding section. I also masked off the little sections under the multiple buttons so that when completed, everything would still light up since all the controls have been done in blue LEDs.
This as all done after I gutted the ac control section so that the internals wouldnt be ruined when submerged.
After the parts were dipped, they removed my masking and then cleared the items.
I too got tired of the look of an overlay kit. I wanted something that looked smooth and factoryish. The route I went is a bit more expensive then a dash kit, but the finished product looks better to me. Everything has the CF pattern, in between the buttons, around the lighted areas and even the edges. The section the clock sits in also has the pattern in it as well as the entire section that goes around the guage clsuter.
I was actually going to go with the Momo Race which was 230 plus shipping and then I found this one for 180 shipped and with the Momo hub the total for both came out to 225 shipped. A deal I couldnt pass up.

Thats awesome, the work really paid off it looks great.
OT: Flava, have you ever been nominated for MOTM? I think you should submit I'm a big fan of your panda theme
It would be great to be MOTM, but I promised myself long ago that I wouldnt nominate myself. Personally, I feel if people like my ride and feel it is worthy then they should be the ones to nominate me.
I just dont feel right about nominating myself.
I think any textured dash kit looks goofy. The Maxima's "kittable" dash exists only right in the center of the car: there are no trim pieces connecting the center stack to the instrument panel or the doors. So when you install a dash kit, you get something that looks stuck-on and out of place. That goes for the OEM "wood," too - it looks like an afterthought. The best look for these cars' dashboards is factory stock, because the design really doesn't accommodate much decoration.
It's unfortunate that the design is so drab, but because of that big, unbroken slab under the passenger's airbag, there's really not much one can do about it.
The CF ones don't look too bad since they're mostly the same colors as the interiors they're stuck to, but the only one in here that I think really looks better than going kitless is the one quoted here.
