Y-Pipe Question
Y-Pipe Question
I have maybe a crazy question but here goes anyway. I'm first of all a unemployed student right now so money is TIGHT. Is it possible to take the pre cats off the factory y and put pieces of pipe in their place. A budget y-pipe per say? Thanks in advance guys.
Possible, yes. Probable, not in my opinion. You can do anything with a plasma cutter and a mig, but I'm guessing you don't have access to such equipment...
(EDIT: I didn't mean that to sound as derogatory as it did - sorry if that's how it came across...)
Lets put it this way - I have that stuff, and I still chose to buy aftermarket - its just not worth the trouble and the gains still wouldn't be what you'd get if you went aftermarket...
Just my 0.02c,

That is what I was planning on doing. I have a friend that is a master with a welder and I was going to take my Y to him and have him take the per cats out and weld in pipe.
Just wait and buy a Y when you have the money.
Apart from removing a pre-cat, the Budget y-pipe also takes care of a restrictive flange at the end of the y-pipe closest to the cat, significantly improving airflow. I think this is where the hp and torque improvement largely come from. Similarly, the Budget b-pipe removes another pipe restriction, which contributes to the gain in hp and torque it provides.
Don't mess around with what you have stock.
