1997 maxima 5sp tranny saga contines....

part 2

ok i have a 1997 maxima se with a tranny issue and i just want any ideas as to what it can be .

ok i push clutch down to start the car
then i push cltch to put in gear i
then release clutch and give gas and nothing

if i repeat this again and make the car roll while its in gear with foot on clutch i the do it again it grabs makes a sound then lets go and starts to make a grinding noise

also when the car is started i dont need to but clucth in to switch gears if i didnt let the car roll or push ist but when it does roll etc and i feel the grab then i need clucth

i checked all fluids , i ordered a new slave and master cylinder , that should be in soon...

any ideas

i love nissan but the tranny is messing me up

+1 on the throwout bearing.

Seriously, don't use that font color.

So will it move under it's own power? You're making it sound like the clutch isn't engaging at all.

Also, next time use a more descriptive thread title.

After you replace your slave cylinder and your master cylinder and you still are having this problem i would start here. if you are releasing the clutch in 1st gear, if it is not engaging when you foot is off the clutch. id look at the clutch, the throw out barring and pressure plate. Check input shaft for play.

if you take out the intake snorkel and look down at the tranny there is a little mettle thingy (idk a better way to describe it) that should move when you push and release the clutch, if thats not moving it could be something in the hydrolic system

sorry about the color, well if i have the car in gear foot on clutch it feels like the car wants to go then i release the clutch and nada, then i repeat that step again have the car roll just a hair line it feels like something locks and grabs the car then gets stiff and wont move cause its in gear waiting for me to drive normal then i do it drives and then like pops (NOT OUT OF GEAR) but something in the tranny does or in that area and nothing, and sometimes if i roll it and it didnt lock in than i let the clutch go it grinds the master and slave do look old but it does move has some play ??? (not sure if its supposed to)

sorry let me know

just me.02 sounds like the splines on a axle may be striped or axle may be broken. Possibly a final drive gear gone too. ? Will it go in reverse and move or it does this in any position the shifter is put in.

it actually does it in every gear even reverse , it will move if i move the car ?myself , example ill push the car a little it moves and feels like it locks into place then i cant push any further, ill get in the car push the clutch in put it in gear an it moves , if i fully locked it in when i pushed it myself if not fully locke it will grind in all gears . i also think its the axle myself, see the kid i bought it from use to burn rubber alot so if this info gives anyone more ideas of what it `maybe let me know

that sounds like the disc is burnt up. return the other parts and get the whole 5th gen clutch kit.

Brian.. when the grammar police arrive, you are in trouble! lol
I've never seen a car do what yours is doing.. it is crazy. I personally think you need to start with a clutch kit, check the input shaft and tranny condition while whoever does it is in there, and proceed from there..
No matter how many times you push that car 6 inches, the tranny isn't gonna work right!
lol
