Ok, So I bought an HID kit on here 2 years ago. Other then it dimming sometimes it has been working great. I bought them when they were like $250 bucks. Anyway, I have 6 k, And I want to go 5k because it is brighter and better on the road. Also cops won't give me as much as a hardtime I don't think.
Anyway, What I want to know is... Which hid bulbs can I get for it? Are they all universal? Do they have a specific fitting number? Do I have to get new Ballasts to try different temps? I hope not.
The brand is called Xenon-Storm. I think this was one of the last kits with Philips bulbs but I will have to check on that. And the company went banky(like 75% of the cheap fake crap sold on here) So no more lifetime warranty.

I don't know that they are mate .... I know my bulbs are D2S, but they also make D2R, H1, H2, H3, H4 .... lots of different ones. It should say on your bulb what 'type' it is. It could be a 9004, but I don't believe they make a 9004 HID bulb, only hallogen.Originally Posted by ChrisMan287

I am just worriing about the connectors. MY housing is 9004. I get that. And they fit right into the headlight housing just fine. However I would like to know if the 2 wires that come off the HID itself will be the same as 5k ones I want.
HIDplanet has nothing I want. 90% of that stuff on their is discontined anyway. So why do they keep them up? lol
Anyway, I can't find 9004 HIDs on there.

Just low beam. And thanks for the links. Seems like they have all of the plugs for any ballest on each HID. pretty cool. I am searching for 5K ones now. Hope I can find some. That auction does not have them.

ohh. I may buy the capictors off that site. Does anyone know if it keeps the voltage consistent as well? Mine seem to dim after a while and I just flash them and they go brighter again. I have a system anyway so regardless I will probably end of getting them.Originally Posted by J RO 9

That's what capacitors are for. Won't help your headlight dimming problem at all.Originally Posted by S1cTech

capacitors? the ballast is supposed to keep the voltage stable. what i've noticed when i put an hid kit on is that my headlights never dimmed when braking - maybe your ballasts are just old and tired?

+1 for you... i had to spend money to switch ova didnt think of that route but hey as long as your happy wit your ride right!!!!
yea, Doing retro is nice, but really. It STILL isnt DOT legal. So it doesn't matter. And Retor is a lot of work and pricey. Just not worth it.

Yes, but a properly done retrofit isn't dangerous, because it's a full DOT-legal setup from another car.
Have you tried a retrofit? Have you driven a car at night that has one? Or are you just blowing it off without any evidence?

1. A retro fit with bi-xenon projectors is DOT legal. You have to have hi and low beam to pass.
2. http://forums.maxima.org/4th-generat...-housings.html - don't even think about putting an HID kit in stock housings, you have got to be kidding me!
3. I can make you a harness that will hold up a LOT better than the stock wiring. PM
I just made one for Ilyak (actually - a second one) if you need a refferance. I think your problem with dimming is due to the stock wiring. It's not that great to begin with, and then you toss an HID kit on there and it's just crap. My HIDs don't dim or flash or blink or any of that. There's the normal 10 second warm up, but they don't dim over time. They shouldn't either ... so something is up there.Ok ... done ranting. lol
Cheers!Modifying any stock headlight is not DOT legal. IF the car never came with them stock. It is not DOT legal for the car. Look up the rules. I even had Mr. bluesky agree with me on this. How does putting a Projector in a Halogen housing does make it legal? Just because it passes inspection does not make it DOT legal.
and yes, I have seen them. Projectors are great, but like I said. Dishing out $400 bones for something that should of been made for our car in the first place or at least having a headlight housing company make them is quite rough in these times.

A properly done retrofit is just as illegal as slapping an HID kit into the 4th generation housing.Originally Posted by JtzMax

I'm pretty sure it is still illegal because even though the parts themselves may be DOT legal, and the cutoff is aimed to DOT spec, the entire assembly together wasn't approved by DOT.
However, you're most likely not going to run into an officer who will pull you over for this. Not only because you're NOT blinding people (like HIDs in a stock housing), but he won't know that it's not stock, unless he's a Maxima guru as well, lol.

Yes... pretty much any car modifications are technically illegal, it's just a matter of whether or not you're hazardous to other drivers, and whether or not you're likely to get caught. I'm pretty sure an aftermarket Y-pipe that eliminates the pre-cats is illegal, but it isn't going to cause any problems. Well-made retrofits are illegal, but they're safe, and I have yet to hear of someone getting a ticket for them. I've seen cops at the big Edgewater car meets park at the entrance and pull over and ticket every car that comes through with blue headlights.
