transmission f'ed up one time?

Here's the deal. Its raining an my tires are pretty bald due to a rack prob an I'm stop the tires start skidding. I skid to a stop ata red light. It turns green and I start driving problem is the car won't go. Omg it revving and not moving, well its moving but barely revving to about 2500 before moving I pull over and turn off the car. I wait about 1 min and turn it on again . Holy crap my o/d button is blinking. I start crying rite about now. I try again its the same. I turn it off again this time I spent about half the time.and cranked it.this time it didn't blink and it drove amazing and it hasent happened again. What does this indicate. Is my transmission going or an anomaly that happens somtimes.

Thanks

Why did you skid to a stop? Is that a part of the problem you're apparently having, or what? Your post isn't the clearest.

Have you not checked the codes yet? It was flashing because there is/was a code set...

Hi there webjohn,

SORRY TO HIJACK YOUR THREAD,
I am new to the forum so I cannot start my own threads yet (it is related to transmission thats why I am posting here).

I am interested in buying a 98 Maxima from a person off kijiji,
but he has a problem with his transmission,
here is what he said:

"many repairs done but transmission slips (dealer can't find the cause).
it shifts hard from 1st the 2nd gear depending on how hard you press the gas.
It's auto.

Mechanically, there is 1 more O2 sensor that needs to be changed and there might be a hole in the muffler. I haven't driven it in some time but i started it last week and it sounds rough so i think it could be a hole in the muffler but I'm not sure."

Does any of you Maxima owners familiar with this problem?
Will a new trans fix this?
And if possible the labor costs associated with the repairs if you think you know what is causing it.

ANY info is greatly appreciated!
Again webjohn sorry to hijack your thread,
wish i could help you too but i dont know too much about maximas...

edit: yes i used the search function and checked the noob guide but the info i was looking was not there.

Did you not even look at the stickies? There's an aptly named NEWBIE thread, for questions like this. Absolutely no reason to use another person's thread, when there's a newbie thread.

I think his car is skidding to a stop because of the rain plus bald tires.

As for the O/D flashing, there's something wrong there. Get the code, post it up, then we can help.

From: IT DOESN'T MATTER WHO CARES!!
When you came to a stop did the RPMS gradually dropped and the engine

felt like It was going to die on you, It can be your MAF If that's what your

car is doing prior to the top post than look out for the TC but I can't rule

that out yet, because I don't know how your shifting Is from the start when

your getting off the line? Does the car rev high then the car starts to shift

then the car goes faster, than It's the TC and It can do the opposite when It's supposed to down shift,It will

rev high then It will graudally shift but with a high REV and a hard jerk.
