00vi swap or buy MEVI

I am wondering about this comparision. Which is better? which would give me more performance? I've read the posts & threads concerning both but I don't remember anyone posting a thread about the good and bad for both.? I want more from my max but which setup is better?

You need to search more.

Seriously, I searched '00vi vs mevi'.

http://forums.maxima.org/4th-generat...ight=00vi+mevi
http://forums.maxima.org/4th-generat...ight=00vi+mevi
http://forums.maxima.org/general-max...ude-honed.html
http://forums.maxima.org/all-motor/2...ight=00vi+mevi
http://forums.maxima.org/general-max...ight=00vi+mevi
http://forums.maxima.org/all-motor/2...00vi-mevi.html
http://forums.maxima.org/supercharge...i-vs-mevi.html

'Better' is all subjective. Readreadreadreadread.

Then pick which you want; easier to install, less power? Or harder to install, more power.

But above all...search.

Although to be fair, the USIM dyno was done with a stock ECU, the other two were with modified units...not a true comparison.

You mean USIM FTMFL?

And yes, definitely not a true comparison, but you can definitely tell by the shape of the curve that the USIM just absolutely starts to choke for air at the higher RPM's. And since the MEVI and 00vi both have the ECU, at least those two curves are a fair comparison.

I might add, one added benefit of going with the 00vi also is that you get the larger injectors and can tune via an AFC to compensate which actually advances the ignition timing. In other words, the 00vi is an opportunity to advance the timing a bit as well.

Mevi + NWP Spacers for easiest route.

00VI for the more ambitious type.

Both are good choices, but the 00vi will have get slightly more power.

you would probley spend alot more $$$ on that setup vs a 00vi

Lately there has been alot of 00vi up for sale some as low as 250. Thats what i picked mine up for(but i bought the whole engine for that much)

They both have there pro's and con's. Personally i loved the 00vi swap you seem to learn alot in the process of it(which in my mind is priceless) But the mevi is direct bolt on which is very convient blah blah blah

Yeah i might be alittle biased. but in all honesty they are both really good mods

True, the MEVI is an easier install, but with all the people who have done the 00vi swap and made websites, posted guides, etc. there is so much experience on here as long as you do all your reading and figure everything out beforehand, get all the parts ready to be installed, and if you start on a Friday night after work, I am sure even for the most inexperienced people on this board they could easily have the 00vi swap done by Monday to get to work again. Honestly, if everything is prepared right, I don't think it could take more than a few hours.

Plus, I don't know about you guys, but I absolutely love going out to the garage and working on the car, the 00vi so far seems like a really fun project.

Okay I see all of the pro's and cons but now which would be more reliable? The Mevi or the 00vi? which has more issues? I want to have a upgrade but not the headache of fixing it constantly.

Neither should have issues. Once its one, thats basicly it. Other parts failing would cause issue, such as bad RPM switch, VSS, etc.

00Vi is going to be the the better power gain, but as all know requires more parts and more fabbing.
The MEVI with the spacers should yeild similair gains as the 00VI, but neither are really worth it with out an extended rev limiter.

Actually I've heard that cold start issues are pretty common with 00vi swaps

If everything is set up properly, there won't be any issues.

A lot of the issues stem from people using the 4th gen IACV and having either too small of a hose, or have it too far away from the UIM, IIRC.

I think most peoples issues are self inflicted.

I've been thinking about 00vi, I'm still fairly new to the 4th gen so I'm not aware of everything. After reading from everyones comments I think I'm gonna start searching my local junk yards for an 00vi, thanks to the 2nd post on this thread, I dont have to search for the components I'll need anymore since all links are there.

After all, I may just find the 00vi dirt cheap. cheaper than the 250 mentioned earlier in this thread, especially considering most engines at a upullit yard cost 200 themselves. Got a nice cheap G35 sedan muffler for 12 bucks on wednesday

Yea, really depends on pricing. At Crazy Ray's in Maryland, the entire 00VI could be had for right around $100...if you could ever find one.

At my local yard I managed the UIM, LIM, fuel rail, injectors, throttle body, egr block off, and injector plugs for under 100.
