V2 OBX headers.. Help needed!!
Hello,
Ok I have just read 17 pages in the 5th gen sub-forum. This as it relates to the new OBX headers. Please I only ask one thing don't bash anything within this thread if you have some really negative thoughts that have no gain please stay out. Here we go -
The headers are meant for the 01-03maximas with NO egr. They will however fit the 4th gen and I don't mind being a test subject for the 4th gen. My gains and sound maybe a little diff because I am FI but doesn't matter none the less. Its all about fitment. Now for questions.
How many of you have ever had to weld an EGR bung onto headers?? How difficult is it? I know it is a little tough because of the guide tube. Needs to be exact.
Is there a way to get rid of the egr completely and not trip any codes for example getting rid of the cat and installing an o2 sim..
We have 3 O2 sensors on the 4th gen, which are front and rear bank then one in the cat or after the cat depending on the yr i.e 95/95 or 97-99 IIRC. the headers have 3 bungs but after reading the 5thgen thread the rear O2 needs to be relocated because of clrearance now ooking at the headers I should be able to close the one in the rear bank primary and us ethe one in the bend. Can anyone look at em and confirm that for me.
Like I stated this is just an informative thread and I just need ideas and I am willing to be the test. If you have a buy cattman idea please get out. I love cattmans but with the budget of headers, tranny, clutch and a couple of things like injector install, new belt, saprk lugs and tuning etc I am looking to do most if the custom work and save the $500 for the rest of the things I need to do.

OBX headers
PS: They have the 95-99 headers but if you know anything about these, they don't have an equal length Y-pipe which is why I am considering to go with these headers.
Thank you.
Ty

If you can install the rear header/Y and line up the EGR equipment, then all it takes is making a locator mark.
Yes, you can remove the EGR without any codes. If you throw in a '95 or '96 ECU, you likely won't have any emissions codes at all. As long as you leave the temp sensor plugged in, you won't get a code for that.
FWIW not all 4th gens have only 3 O2 sensors.

So, since ty didn't keep you guys updated, I'll do it.........
He installed these on his 4th gen and they were a direct bolt on, well asides from the egr, I don't know what he did there. My employee also installed these on his 4th gen, no egr but other than that direct bolt on, didn't even have to clearance the motor mount
Both me and Ty were under the assumption that the y-pipe to cat flange would not be in the correct spot, but this is not the case. If only they made this with an EGR, other than that they are direct fit.

Likely turned out not to be the case for my employee, I feel bad because I told him 'nah, you're a '95, you won't get a cel. I suppose I should confirm his ecu is a '95 though, since his motor had been replaced (before we replaced it again!) and it's kind of a rat, well was, it's getting there.
For what it's worth, I pulled my '99s EGR when I installed headers, and I haven't seen an EGR code since then. I did it by keeping the EGR module intact (no exhaust connections) and left the ECU connected to it, and also kept the heat sensor connected to the ECU but lying in the engine valley. The EGR module thingie is still tie-wrapped to the top of my intake manifold, just sitting there....
The ECU seems to be happy with the electrical parts connected, even though all EGR exhaust connections are gone.

It seems that everyone I ever talk to is confused about the whole EGR thing.
If you leave the temperature sensor plugged in, you WILL NOT get a code. You can remove EVERYTHING, just leave the sensor plugged in.

Not true, you can also get a code for the EGR solenoid valve, in which case that would need to be plugged in (or tricked) as well.

Not true, it must be just a randomn thing, some ecu's get it some don't, maybe a software glitch or chip from a different manafacturer on the board, i don't know, but my employees '95 and on my '96 I30 this was definitly 100% NOT the case. And if it was the case, how do people get 0400's from plugged guide tubes? 0400's from plugged guide tubes because the ecu doesn't see the right temp during the right conditions is somewhat common, but then I've also seen motors from cars that had the guide tubes plugged to **** and weren't throwing codes.
i ran into the same problem when i installed my hotshots on my 00 fedspec. what i i was take the rear heaer an a stock manifold to an exhaust shot and had them weld a little tube on the hotshot where the stock one was. i bought a stock rear manifold off here for a few bucks to make things easier and to cut down on down time.
since ive had my headers installed over 2 years ago ive never had any egr related codes, so i know it can be done and it only cost like $20 or so
