Raced a 3.5L Altima from 80+. . .

Well kinda as we were never started side by side but anyway. . .

I was driving home tonight on 505, which is a 4 lane freeway 2 lanes in each direction speed limit is 70 but most go 100. I was crusing at 80 waiting for the car in front of me to move over when I see a car coming up on me really quick. I thought it was a Celica at first as that is what the headlights kinda looked like but then he kinda cuts me off and I notice it is a New Altima with a badge clearly stateing 3.5L. Well, I was kinda ticked that I got cut off and I wanted to see how I would fair aginst it, so as soon as the car in front of him moved out of the way I downshifted to 3rd and accelerated with him. Anyway, he got a jump on me just because I didn't want to rearend him and he pulled about a car length and didn't pull any further. It was basically even until we hit about 110 and then I started pulling a little, as in I made it to his back bumper and then stayed there until ~130 where neither of our cars were really accelerating anymore. Anyway we came up on traffic and he had to slow down and I flew by and slowed down waiting for him to catch up, but by the time that happened it wasn't worth the risk to try it again and he flew by my at 100+ and I didn't see him again until he was exiting a few miles down the road. So honestly, I think the cars are pretty even. . . I don't know what kind of tranny it had, and there weren't any real clues, but I hung with it pretty well.

For those wondering the details of my car are: 95 5-Spd SE, Cattman Y-Pipe, K&N Cone Filter. . . Although I think any performance mods are negated by the added weight of my stereo (~65 lbs) and about 20 lbs of laundry I had in the backseat and trunk. Also, I had the A/C on the second setting, but I don't think that really mattered as the compressor is cut at full throttle.

I does whe it isn't loaded down. . . I have taken our the stereo stuff before and it pulls a hell of a lot more. I really want to take her to the track and see what she runs, but I never get a chance to due to where I am located.

That's cool. You do know stock for stock, '95 5spds are the fastest Maxima's. (besides '02 of course)

What happened ?? My sis's GXE automagic is a lil' faster than my '95 SE automagic. They are sooo light.

I cant even imagine a 5spd.

I ran it through carfax and found out there was an odometer rollback. Instead of 89k it had more like 130k+. I traded the car in a week later for my current slower 99SE. Back then I didn't know about this site. If I did, I probably would have kept her. Had some nice 17in Concept neeper rims on it. Oh well, ignorance is bliss...

OK, the new Altimas do the 60 sprint in around 6.3 Sorry, no 4th gen is doing that with just a y-pipe and intake. And they pull pretty hard on the highway too. Not a chance that it was a stick, he'd have killed you. They're at 240hp stock! And weigh about the same as we do. Sorry bud, it was an auto. But good race anyway

I think he meant 3.5 liter, not 3.5L as in the model, but who knows.

'95 Maximas do 0-60 in 6.6 seconds stock. An intake and Y-pipe will definitely shave a few tenths off of that. There are 4th gens with a few breathing mods running mid 14s, which would be close to a 6-second 0-60.

honestly, 65lbs of stereo and 20lbs of laundry will cost you a max of 1 second in the 1/4(every 100lbs = .1 in the 1/4). A modded 5 speed and an auto 3.5 should be pretty similiar though. I would think 100+ he would pull slighty. My $.02

I know that even the 2k Maxima's have more top end than my car, so that is why I was thinking it was a manual, especially since it was fairly even and there was aslight moment or two when I was gaining. I have never taken my car to the track so honestly I don't know what it runs, but 95 5-spds tend to be pretty quick.

My friend just got it last week. That car is sick, and I think it is faster than most Maximas. he has the 3.5SE and that car flies like crazy.

Maybe it was because it was a new car and all, I don't know, but it is a great and very nice car.

You think the new altima is a sick car, wait till the new Maxima comes out . If the Altima is any indication of where Nissan is heading then the new Max will be __________- you fill in the blank!

blah blah blah.......96s are 100 LBS LIGHTER than 95s...check the stats....96 GXEs SHOULD actually be the fastest considering weight.....look at Nealoc187....he ran 14.4 with just a friggen y-pipe in his 96 GXE 5-speed...

I dont see why its so hard to believe Garth.

A 4th gen 5spd w/ Y-pipe and good driver should be high 14's. A 3.5 SE Alty w/ auto should be about the same time...high 14's. Makes sense to me.

THe 2k2 auto Max ran high 14's. THis is posted in the 5th gen forum. The 2k2 Max and new Alty are VERY similar in power and weight. COmmon sense can put this together.
