Finally solved my rear end squeak. 5 minute fix

My car has had a chronic rear end squeak for as long as I've owned it. Just getting in and out of the car would set it off. Same thing with pulling in/out of driveways and just about any bump. F-in annoying.

I started pulling things apart today to try and figure out what was up and it turned out to be very simple. There is a joint between two body panels in the trunk near the driver's side shock that were rubbing together when the chassis flexed and causing the squeak.

I could push on the corner of one panel with my finger and make it squeak, right where my finger is at in this pic:

To fix it I took a small pry bar and wedged the two pieces apart a little in the corner. It wasn't clear exactly where they were rubbing, so it took some trial and error to get it right.

My last 4th gen had this same squeak and I'm curious now if it was caused by the same problem. Post up if your car has a squeak and this did or did not fix it.

My car has a squeak in the rear somewhere but I haven't looked into it yet. I always assumed it was something like bushings, but since you bring this up I may take a look at it next time I have some free time.

Can you cause it to squeak by just pushing down on the trunk? That's how mine was before I fixed it.

I had a very bad squeak about 2 months ago...turned out to be that muffler hanger bushing thing.

Haven't tried. I can tell you that it squeaks if I shut either of my front doors hard enough, but that may just be coincidence.

Me too! Mine has been doint it forever and I always thought it was coming from the rear deck panel or somewheres close by. I hope it solves my issue. I just never got around to taking things apart.

I might have to try this too. I have a faint one that I haven't found yet. Sounded like a bushing to me, but maybe this is it.
