My gauge for the RPMs (having a brain fart, can't think of its name) is acting strange. I was driving alone, and all of a sudden the needle dropped back to about 1000 RPMs and sticks. It doesn't respond to pressing on the accelerator. As I drove on, I noticed the needle was slowly moving from 1000 up through 5000 by the time I got to my destination. This was probably a drive of 25-30 minutes. When I shut the car off the needle shot back down to 0. As I drive for longer periods of time it goes all the way to maximum RPMs and stops. When the car is shut off, it doesn't go back to 0. Then the next drive, it popped back to about 3000 RPMs and slowly moved up from there. Has anyone had this happen before, or know what might cause it. Thanks in advance. Sorry the post was so long.

 

Do you have an aftermarket dash kit? Maybe its causing the dials to stick...

 

a. it's a tachometer
b. If you haven't messed with your instruments, it's prolly a good idea to have the dealer check it.

and I haven't messed with the cluster or anything. It's all stock.

 

I think most newer cars use an electronic signal to send to the guage. Whatever sends that signal is probably screwed up and need to be replaced. I have no idea what it is though. Maybe some of our resident experts can clear it up.
