Too many miles for seafoam?

I have 257k miles on my 96 SE, original motor. Is that too many miles to seafoam a motor? I was planning on doing it tomorrow but for some strange reason started to think that 257k is too many mile to seafoam, like something could go wrong.

I personally use seafoam for one thing: finding exhaust leaks.

Then again I could do the same with ATF, or a bunch of other liquids.

Though it is fun to run around spewing smoke everywhere.

Hm I'd be weary on putting SeaFoam in the oil, but definitely put some through the brake booster and gas. That's what I did at 218K and I've had no problems so far.

i dont understand why people get hesitant with putting it in the oil. it wont mess anything up. it would just be pointless to clean out the crankcase if your not gonna change ur oil.

Yes. Like 100 miles after.

I ran it for 200 miles and then dropped the pan and cleaned everything out.

Car has been fine. I also run it in my gas every 5k or so.

if i put it in the gas how much gas should be in it when i do it? and if i put it in the oil would i have to drop the pan or just do it like a regular oil change?

IMO if your putting it into the brake booster vaccum to clean out the intake your better off just taking off the upper and using some brake cleaner on the upper. Plus that way you can atleast see whats clean and whats not.

Put it in like any other gas cleaner. Empty tank, pour in seafoam, fill up tank to full.

"is my room too dirty to clean?"

Haha I put it every where it says, oil, gas, brake booster.

But if you put it in the oil be sure to do it when you are about ti change the oil, I poured a bunch of seafoam in my oil and I all of a sudden got lazy and kept putting off the oil change and 400 miles later when it came out, it was like water but not literally just the viscosity. But the inside of the engine looks less black

AND do NOT put it in your oil AFTER an oil change..........................................se riously! If 400 miles makes it the viscosity of water...................................

he is right on this. when i seafoam its maybe 3 times a year. why you ask? cause i run 10-40 oil which is perfect for my cars cause there both over 250k, so with that i go loooooong intervals on oil changes. but right before the oil change i dump in the seafoam, drive 2 miles to the jiffy and when they open that plug; tell noah to get the ark. its a flood. then i refill the oil and my car runs like i got it at when it had 36k.

Brake Booster is easier. For someone who hasn't taken the UIM off.

I can take my UIM off in 15 minutes. So for me, either one would work.

According to my calculations (Butt Dyno) it seemed to be a tad slower, and the car was heating up to normal operating temps. really fast. Which is not normal for me haha

But other than that it did not over-heat or stalled or anything it ran just fine, just don't keep it in there for as long as I did

And Blackwind, I know exactly what you mean, right after that oil change everything just wanted to EXPLODE in a good way of course

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Not sure if this schedule works for everyone but.... I change my oil every 5k miles, and at about 300 miles before 5k, so basically at 4700 miles, I dump a bunch of sea foam into the gas, and brake booster. Then when it reaches 5k miles, I pour the rest of the can into the oil, then drive around for about 200 miles, and change the oil. I've been doing that so far, for about 2 years and no bad effects yet

Exactly........

Im wondering how much does seafoam really clean your upper hmmmmm has anyone ever done a before and after??? Hell im tempted to do it..

In most scenarios yes i agree smarter not harder. But doing something half arsed and doing a good job will make a diffrence.... im not doubting seafoam's integrity im just saying i dont think it would get all the gunk out vs someone geting alot more by hand + brake cleaner ect ect

I have.... sort of...

I was cleaning my TB one day and didn't have any TB cleaner and so I got creative and got my can of seafoam and poured some on a rag and then wiped it around in the TB and when I pulled the rag out it was BLACK and I could actually see metal in the TB, meaning it penetrated through the carbon into the metal! Which is good

Im talking
take off UM take pics put back on

pour in seafoam(in a vaccum source most likely the brake booster)

take off and compare.

Sorry guys im not trying to be hostile here just trying to prove a point. Yeah im sure that seafoam will clean out your UM somewhat. The somewhat is what i guess im trying to figure out.

...........Waiting on pmohr to tell me to search for a before and after for the seafoam............

I would do it if tommorrow were payday. It seriously takes me minutes to take off my UIM(if i dont care about losing some coolant)

I bet it takes me less time

Throttle cables, electrical, intake plumbing, 2 vacuum lines, and 4 bolts.

I say bah to your coolant lines.

Hell, I just took one of the stock hoses and looped it around to the other fitting, no other parts needed. It does have a nasty crimp in it, but I don't really care. I'll be hooking them back up when I throw the 00VI in, though...
