IACV how to clean? + REAR 02 Sensor / idle issues / rougher .. etc.
IACV how to clean? + REAR 02 Sensor / idle issues / rougher .. etc.
Thanks for any help anyone can provide... Search didn't help that much but I'm going to do a more thorough one when I get a minute ... anyway please read:
1995 Max Se:
So I had a P0136 - Rear O2 sensor fault code / CEL on for a while. Then it went away for about two months for some reason. Now it's back on, but additionally, I now have a P0505 - Idle Air Control Valve. (IACV-AAC)
So the car idles very low (around 400-500 rpm when stopped/ in reverse, etc) though the engine hasn't stalled yet it still runs fine, just rougher throughout the car you can feel it. I'm sure some of you have had this issue before and I've read via the search that many people tried quite a few different things, replacing hoses, harness... etc and sometimes that didn't work.
Can anyone suggest anything aside from going out and buying a new IACV that may be able to fix this. How about cleaning the IACV? First of all I don't know where it is in the engine, new to this, so if you can link to a tut. on how to...whatever but if anyone thinks thats a good start at diagnosing this issue let me know. Checking harness or connectors... well I can do that if I know what to look for, help?
To note (if any of this could be related/affecting in any way):
**Car was sitting for about two weeks then used once then sat for another week.
Recent work on the car:
-replaced EGRC Solenoid about two or three months ago
- Air Filter (to Nissan oem brand.. from some aftermarket one that was in there already)
- Oil Filter (also to OEM brand .. and I'm about to replace my fuel filter as well.)

If you search, you'll find the IACV location.
From the very first result for 'IACV location':

Another result.

Have you not tried setting the idle properly yet?
For the O2 sensor code, have you not checked the harness and connections for that? Tested the rear O2?

A good cleaning wouldn't hurt. I definitely would adjust the idle on a clean IACV. I say take the IACV and throttle body off, get throttle body cleaner and clean them both thoroughly. With the IACV, just spraying cleaner in the ports and on the surface isn't good enough. I recommend completely disassembling the entire thing and giving it a very thorough cleaning. Then new gaskets, reinstall, then adjust the idle. Also, make sure the hose that feeds the iacv isn't crimped.
