It's that time for getting new tires, so I said why not get new wheels with those tires!? I have the SE 16s right now...but I think I want to get 17s...or maybe 18s...but I'm not sure if bigger is better (my main concern is that huge gap between the tire and wheel well)...i know bigger rims won't close that gap, but does it at least make the car look nicer? If anyone has pics of their cars with 17 or 18" rims on them...please point me to them. I was thinking about the konig tantrums (which seem pretty popular) or the enkei cdr9. and for tires, it looks like most of you like the Kuhmos Supras...but how do they compare to the Yokohama A520 TL...which are almost the same price? Since I'm new to the world of wheels and tires...any opinions or tips would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

If you are not already dropped, you should invest in springs/shocks first... Because IMO a Maxima that has rims and is not dropped doesn't look very good, and kinda ruins the fact that you have nice rims...

I agree...but since I really need new tires...I figured I'll get the rims now...and then get new springs later. I just don't have the cash to buy everything right now. I just had my 45K maintance checkup, put in new brake pads today...and tires+rims will cost me a good chunk of cash...so the springs will have have to wait until next year.

Kumho's are used by a lot of people on this board and other places... Although when I went to have them installed, the guy told me "you know these are the worst radial tires on the market, right?"... I was just like... "No I didn't, but everybody uses them anyway".. I have the Kumhos and I think they are a good value, if you are not planning to do any serious racing. Although I've heard that in the snow they are a joke, but haven't been able to try that yet (live in Cali)...

get 15" daytons and then buy some intrax springs and cut a few coils. actually forget the intrax and just cut your stock springs. then buy a chrome kit for your wheel well and you are set my man

Which Kumho...the ECSTA Supra 712? Everybody is raving about ECSTA Supra 712. Nobody is raving about their other lines. When you buy tires, the model of the tires are important than the brand name. It like people raving about a Mercedes (S55AMG) and you went out and got C230. Big difference in performance. FYI, ECSTA supra is ultra high performance tire. It's NOT ALL SEASON. It's not meant to be drivin in snow or slush.

Yeah, I meant the ECSTA Supra 712s...the ones that are the cheapest at tires.com. I live in CA, so I don't think snow or slush will be a problem...and I can always use chains if I go up to Lake Tahoe. At the same time, I don't know how much I need "ultra high performance" tires...since I don't race. The Yokohamas seemed like a better match for me... I'll probably just stick with the Kumhos and I think I've decided on 18" Konig Verdicts for rims. Thanks for everyones input. Hey, how many posts do I need before I'm no longer a "Lurker"...I don't like being a lurker.

well.....I'm

married with children
Sons(Jonah-2 Years Old,Ethan-1 Year Old).

and this is my everyday driven car and when all get it and go omewhere on vacation or what ever the car sat way to close to ground and I live in south Georgia where we have some very harsh dirt roads so clearance was an issue...and my own drive way I scraped my valence everytime I came in and out...
(I liked it it looked good I had it "dropped" for over a year but it played out..I don't knock anyone esle doing it but I won't do it agin....)

some drops are not good for everyday driving conditions and clearance....

There are always coilovers. That will let you adjust it when you want it dropped or not. Just a thought.

I understand...but my point is this board sometimes "makes" you think you "need" this or that...influence.......some good and some bad

I can tell you all day long to do this of that to your ride but who will pay for it in money or maintenance you will....

you don't "NEED" to drop your Maxima...

I'm probably the only one who has had their Maxima dropped and went back to stock.....there are some though who will never drop their ride

Yeah, my brother told me that coilovers would be a good idea for lowering the car...he recommended ground controls. But he said that I could use my stock SE struts...is that a good idea? I'm sure new struts would be better...but that's also more money!

I was originally just going to buy 4 tires for $380...now I'm getting a $1500 tire+wheel package, $400 coilovers and who knows what else! I don't even think I can afford all that! Damnit...why do mods have to be so expensive!

WhalenTires.com had good prices for the rims/tires....does anyone have know of a good place to buy coilovers in the bayarea (san jose) or on the web?

the ride isnt too bad, i mean it can get a little bouncy at times, especially on rough roads, but ive never scraped, and the back still sits a little high though the front looks great
