Car won't start, i need some help

i have a 96' with a de-k in it and for some reason when i turn the key nothing happens, it doesn't turn over. When i checked the wire going to the started with my test light, it's not even getting power when i turn the key. .

Is ur battery dead? is it connected? does ur engine even try to crank?

Maxima287 Jul 14, 2009 09:46 PM

the battery is good and it doesnt crank or do anything...it just makes a buzzing sound and thats it but when i jump the starter it cranks so i know the starter is good.

aackshun Jul 14, 2009 10:12 PM

This buzzing sound? Is it coming from under the dash? Sounds like what I had... I just cleaned my battery terminals w/ some coke and my car starts up now, but I'm going to do some real work on the terminals tomorrow afternoon, to ensure that this problem never happens to me again.

There is a lot of information missing here.

When did it start not cranking? Since you put the DE-K in? Just recently?

Did you do anything to the car immediately prior to this, did you have anything done, or did anything happen?

Since you didn't give any details, are we to assume that you're still an automatic? Have you tried starting it in every gear range, not just Park or Neutral?

Which wire did you check? The signal wire that's got a connector on it, or the B+ feed that bolts on to the solenoid?

What exactly is buzzing? Have you checked all the connections to the starter and at the battery, making sure they're all tight and making good contact (corrosion free)?

the buzzing sounds like its under the hood but when listening from the outside it sounds like its in the car....... and PMOHR its still the same car i was PMing you about but i decided to make a thread because i haven't gotten a response, it turned over last week when i cleaned the terminals but now the B+ wire that goes to the starter is dead (not getting any power to it) and the car isn't auto anymore

Honestly I discuss so many different cars and starting issues over PM, I would have to read back through them to remember anything.

So the B+ feed to the starter isn't getting power? Have you followed it back to the battery? It's a very short run, it shouldn't be dead.

Maxima287 Jul 15, 2009 06:58 AM

yea i took all the tape and loom off and the wire goes right to the clutch interlock relay.

kisas Jul 15, 2009 10:10 AM

try jump start see if it's battery,
then see if you get enough voltage for the ignition

Maxima287 Jul 15, 2009 10:59 AM

i tried to jump start it and still isn't doing anything.

The B+ feed should not go there, it should go straight to the battery. Are you talking about the signal wire then? Completely different things.

Have you bypassed the clutch interlock relay to see if it'll start? Jumped the starter manually?

Maxima287 Jul 15, 2009 11:21 AM

lol sorry...the signal wire is what i meant. i bypassed the clutch interlock and even got a new relay. and i jumped the starter manually but it doesn't turn over as fast.

As fast as?

If it's not turning over quickly, and you've already verified that the battery is in good shape, then have you checked what sort of voltage you're seeing at the starter itself? Corroded or loose connection?

Leo_Koneval Jul 15, 2009 12:37 PM

We should make a sticky with all starting problem scenarios and offer solutions right on that thread for each scenario haha

But by buzzing do you mean like a ticking sound or clicking sound? Because if there is a sound then I think your battery is just really low. I hope, hahah

the blk and red wire that plugs into the starter doesnt have any power when i put my test light to it.

Is this while you have the key turned to the start position? If not, it shouldn't have voltage.

asand1 Jul 16, 2009 02:24 PM

Have you ched for signal at the relay? if none pull the column plastic and check at the switch.

Maxima287 Jul 16, 2009 02:29 PM

yes i have the key turned when i check that wire.

asand1 Jul 16, 2009 05:43 PM

Here are some things to check first. Dont forget to check ALL fuses. GL

What voltage should I be seeing at the starter and when should I see it? I see battery voltage when key is in ON posiion and then a 5-7v drop when I try to start the car...

cdelena Jul 20, 2009 11:14 AM

I found it took both a new starter and starter relay to resolve my starting problems. It is common to have intermittant relay problems so it is hard to test for... I wasted a lot of time and should have just replaced both parts to begin with.
