Thickest tire for 20" rims

Please let me know what is the thickest possible tire i can use for 20" rims on my maxima. Please don't tell me about going to smaller rims and lightweight tuner rims i don't care about that. All the info i need please is just what is the biggest size tire that will fit without rubbing on a 98 maxima. Right now i'm riding on 225 35 20 nexen n3000
well since so many people responded to his thread, here is the reason i asked, here is my car

Thickest as in...tire width? sidewall?

By 'thickest' I assume you mean sidewall, which means nothing without the tire width.

You also have to take into account the specs of the wheels themselves (width, offset).

You should really post this in the appropriate subforum, here http://forums.maxima.org/tires-wheels-53/

i never seen a 225/40/20 they get wider and taller like 245/40/20 an so on
but is you're car dropped?
When i work at a tire shop if we knew the customer well we try tires on for free. to see if they rub. But 20inch wheels regardless how tall the tires you get you're car is not going to drive like a Cadillac. the roads suck, I only seen one 4th gen on 20s that look clean but he had airbags and ton of wheel housing work

245 35 20 i thinks is the thickest, but it will rub in the back with people, so just use some spacers from autozone for that.
but screw it, just upgrade to 22's with a 245 30 22 tire, but you gotta lift it though

I should have mentioned in my previous post that I was rubbing only up front on u-turns with the same tire size you have and dropped on Sprints/AGX combo (2" drop). So the only problem I had was the rubbing and the obvious...a rough ride.

thanks guys,
alright, think i'll be ok then,
so it rubs when the wheels are fully turned? how bad is it?

love 20's man, but i dunno if i should go with 18's.
not big enough for my taste personally...

I had both 18's and 20's on my Max...both looked good to me...but the way it tucked with the 20's and the drop was the best look for me.

The rubbing itself was nothing major in my opinion...just something to get used to hearing.

The offset you will want to run on 245/35R20 if you can not find a 20 x 8.5 is a 38 or 40 offset. It's better if you can find a wheel you like with that width and a 38 offset, then you will run smooth with no problem. But you can not run anything bigger then a 35series tire on a 20" wheel with a Max any bigger and you will rub.
