Need opinions on tint....

Well, I found someone to tint my windows down to 5%. He said he will charge me $200 to do either 5 or 15%. I had 27% on my old max and that was not enough, but I think 5% may be too dark considering I deliver pizza 1 day a week(it would be hard finding addresses at night). Do you guys think 15% will look pretty dark since I have a black SE with black leather? My friend has a super black 98 Jetta with 5% and I like the way it looks. Is $200 a good price? What do you think 5% or 15%?
tED
P.S. It will be smoke or black, not metallic or colored.

Well, I have 5% all around on my car, and to tell you the truth I kind of regret it. If I could do it again I would get 2.5% 5% is already very illegal, so why not get it as dark as you can. Basiclly, you cant see anything at all at night, so delivery pizzas will be VERY hard. However, I wouldnt make a decision you will regret just because of something you will be doing once a week (for a short period of time I hope). $200 is a very good price for all the windows besides front. I paid $250. So IMO, get 2.5% all the way around

i guess it depends where you are...
In NY, prices range from 140-250$, most of it depends on quality of film (semi-metallized, metallized, regular etc..) but don't get screwed, make sure you see some of the places previous work before you go ahead with it. I had my windows tinted for 150$ on my old car and they screwed them up really bad, big gaps between start of film and window edge, gaps in other places, dirt under film. Rear window was also done in like 6 pieces, as opposed to the 2-3 they told me and it was noticeable.

I had 20% all around, I was happy with it. You can see at night, although not that good sometimes... At night it looked like LIMO 5% tint, in the day, it was dark enough to not make anything out well, but you can see outlines and stuff... I am contemplating going with 15% on my new 98 GXE, because I have tan interior. otherwise I would have gone for 20. 5% is too much IMHO

I have 5% on all my windows except the drivers side and front passenger side. Cost me $80 canadian...so about $50 US (you guys pay way too much for tint).
Make sure you dont get the stuff that turns purple after a few months too because it also get lighter.

The guy tinting has a good shop, but he can't give me anything in writing since the tint job is illegal. He did say that it was garunteed, so I am guessing he is using quality tint, not the stuff that turns purple. I think I will go with 5%. I don't want to regret not going dark enough.
Thanks for all the input.

I wish I had gotten my windows darker. Curently I have 30 on the front and 20 on the rear (legal limit.) I paid $200 at Ziebart - lifetime warranty, one piece rear winshield. I want darker and am hoping that I can just have another layer put on top. Does anyone know if this is possible or will I have to start over? People with dark tint, does it attract much attention from police?
Thanks

No problems with police due to windows yet, but that might be cause i roll them down whenever i see a Po-Po.
Oh BTW, Maxtout, im telling you. If youre gonna get 5%, then you should really go for the 2.5%. Either way theyre illegal and you cant see inside at all, under any conditions. With the 5% on a sunny day, when light is coming through the front windshield, you can sorta see the outline of the front peoples heads. I HATE that. Thats why i ay go for 2.5%!

Not Mirror!

I wouldn't go with a mirror tint because they don't look good on black cars. I have a '96 black Maxima, with black interior also, and I have 15%, but you can still see in. If I were you, I would get 5% or lower. And about the delivery, just roll down the window when you are riding through the neighborhood

You can see out fine with 15%, I have seen 2.5%, and it is a lot harder to see out at night, but during the day its all good.

What if it's raining or snowing outside? Or if it's like 10 degrees outside? BTW, I remember my friends Mustang had 2 layers of tint.. one was on the car when he got it, then he put another 20% on it, it looked VERY dark after that.
2.5% is just crazy, lol. If you want dark, go with Limo...... If you think that will be too light, then get like 50% on your front windshield or something although I don't reccomend it, just an idea, it will help the front look darker then the back. I'll still settle for 15-20%, too dark is crazy, too much unwanted attention, will probably annoy the cops a lot.

Yeah, I agree. I have been pulled over a couple of times, and the cops haven't said one thing. They probably would if I had 5% though. I heard that if a cop can't see in your car, he will cut the tint with a knife and still write you a ticket. Has this happened to anyone, or were they just messing with me?

Well, just be careful. I know someone who has 35% all around on his max and got a ticket for that.

the place i went to tint my windows kinda messed them up a little, and he said he would take them off free and do it again. he also said if i get a ticket, he would rip them off for me (fix-it ticket) and put them back on again for free. guy is really cool.

The legal limit in CO is 27%, and my friend with 5% said he never has been pulled over since 98. I think I will get 5% and hope no 5-0 notice. The supidest thing I have been pulled over for was driving with only my fogs on(rewired fogs). I hope the 5-0 won't pull me over for something stupid like tint. I would not want to need to roll my windows down too much, considering it gets rather cold in CO. As a matter of fact the temp rignt now is exactly 10 degrees F.

Tintdamax, how is 2.5% done? Do they do layers of 5%? I don't know if I could handle it being that dark, I might change lanes at night when someone is there.

Ha ha. i remember when i first got my tint. it was summer time and the sun was RIGHT in my eyes and I was on the freeway. I HAD to wear sunglasses cause of the sun. It was the scariest thing ever! I was soooo scared to change lanes. I couldnt see anything at all!
I think the way that they do 2.5% is they just put one on the outside and one on the inside. I think if youre worried about cops, it all depends on where you live. If you live in a big city, cops will have no time to be pulling people over for tint. If you live in the suburbs, WATCH OUT! In small towns the cops have nothing better to do then harrass people for little things. As far as the cop cutting out tint, i dont think that can be true. Are police allowed to vandalize your car? I dont think so. The worst that can happen is probably a citation.

Custom Flame?

Can you describe the tint flame? I have never seen or heard of one of those. Have you ever seen of someone with that done or did you just think about doing it?

With your 20% mirror tint you say that no one can see in no? How hard is it to see out of at night? I want to do a mirror tint to the Jeep Im going to buy as it is White but I still need to see out of the windows at night when I go 4-wheeling.

You guys are all nuts. I remember paying prices like that for tint when I lived on NJ. I can get a micro-edge one piece back window and all 4 passenger/driver windows for $120 here in Tampa. I never realized how ripped off I was getting. You can get one of the kids around here (who do 2-3 piece back windows, but they're pretty good) to do it for $60-$70. Supply and demand I guess. Thank god I don't live in NJ anymore.

its the whole window is mirror and there is a ghost flame cut out of the tint so the acutal flame is just the normal window with no tint. it was done on a civic in a lowrider euro. but the civic just had regual tint not mirror

at night time the biggest problem is staring out of the windshield in front of you then having to look over when you change lanes because when you do that for a split second I have problems adjusting to the darker window but it goes away almost as quickly as it happens. I think that goes for any tint. if anything it forces you to pay attention

But is it hard to see out? I have 10% right now and when there are no street lights and a car is comming directly at my side without their headlights on I would not see them...I dont want that on the Jeep, but I also like my privacy....Any suggestions?

I paid $150 here in NY for 20% tint on my black Max. I love them cuz I can see out fine all the time, and its real hard to see anything inside unless the sun is shining into the front windshield, even then you just see outlines and shadows. Mine are illegal here (I think the limit here is 35%) but I havent had any problems, even when Ive been 20% or less.

Over here in Cali, its illegal to have any tint in the front, but I think that as long as the cop can see inside, its okay. But its real easy to roll down the windows when you see a piggy. The only problem is when it rains, but what cop is gonna stop someone in the rain just cause of tint?

It's illegal to have anything up front in NJ, but cops didn't much care. I know of some kids that had to rip their tint off with the cop present, but they probably just drove like *******s. Here in FL, there is some kind of law, but you would never know it. I have NEVER heard of anyone getting a tint ticket. There are kids that roll around with 5% everywhere and 20% on the windsheild. I can't beleive they can see.

I've got 5% tint all around w/ a 12 inch front strip. I love it, it looks great, you can't see in, and I never ever have to wear sunglasses. I'm thinking about removing my front strip and having the whole winsheild tinted 20%. I dunno though I'm pretty happy with it as it is.
