Love your Maxima too much?

I keep getting teased from friends and family for driving my 95 Maxima. For example, when the Cash for Clunkers deal was announced, I had people call to tell me to get rid of my car. I had to tell them at 1. my Maxima is not a clunker and 2. I love her too much and can't stand the thought of her being destroyed. She was the first car I bought completely by myself, got her when she was new, and I put all 240K miles on her. So I find myself throwing all sorts of money to make sure that she keeps running. More money than the car is even worth. In fact, last week I sprung for a $300 ceramic tint job on her because the first tint job started purpling.

Last year I bought an IS F and a LX570. Now that those cars are paid off, I've been getting the new car itch again, but I'm out of parking spaces (I've got 5 cars). If I had an extra space, I'd likely replace the Maxima with a LS460L or a GT-R. Yet, everytime I think about it, I realize that I can't let my Max go. Anyone else feel this sort of loyalty to their Maxima or am I just crazy?

I've had plenty of opportunities to replace the Maxima, but I can't let go either; far too much time wrenching, modding, washing, and waxing. I've come extremely close to pulling the trigger on a 2006 M5 and a 2008 CTS-V, but at the end of the day I know I'd just end up missing my Maxima.

Besides, if I really need to get behind the wheel of something transcendental, I've got the NSX. If the Maxima is my loving wife, the NSX is my filthy little mistress on the side.

i had someone from a local nissan dealer call me about cash for clunkers thing too, it kind of pissed me off that they would imply to me that my car junk and i let them hear it.

I am a college student and don't have a ton of money to sink into a car but my max is the best purchase i think i have ever made. It has been super reliable, its reasonably quick and i love the way it looks. I can't say for sure my next car will be a maxima or even a nissan but i can say for sure i will never forget this car

Haha my Maxima was the very first car I picked up a wrench and worked on. And I can still remember the first time I came inside the house with hands completely covered in black dust from cleaning out the engine and such.

And since then, instead of dreading about having to put more work into the car. I connected with it, and letting it go for another car is at the bottom of my mind

when you get a blown headgasket, ruined front end suspension, on going electrical issues, and a mountain of other minor things, some things are meant to go. and thats exactly what i did and got another car

my girlfriend thinks i spend too much time with my Max. i
ve got a '99 GLE. it's my first car, and the first car i've ever taken an intrest in working on. it runs great, sounds great with a new intake, and is starting to look much better now that i'm about to repaint the front bumper. the interior is all black, and the seat are leather, so it turns into an oven sitting in the sun, but i don't care!

my mom looked into trading my max for cash for clunkers.

it didnt qualify, gas mileage was too good.

i probably wouldve done it tbh, i could just pick up another 4th gen for less than i got and have money for a vq35.

you realize they dont just hand you a check for clunking a car....you are required to buy a newer car.

I would typically get rid of a car with 100,000 miles, but after joining this org, I feel like my car is just getting broken in. This is also my first time turning wrenches, and I enjoy the thought of working on my car on the weekends now. I going to keep her for a few more years at least.

I feel the way you guys do. I just took mine on a road trip and it ran beautifully. Although, after hitting the streets of NYC (Brooklyn in particular), it did a number on my front end. It was smooth as butter and now I'm getting clunking under my floor pan and i haven't figured out what it is. I've changed the sway bar and right strut mount bushings where were destroyed.

I tell ya, I love this car even though it's not as fast as I'd like it to be but I almost went out yesterday and bought a 2k3 Titanium Max. I'm going to hold on to this car has long as I can.

Yeah I know exactly what you mean! After getting backed into by some guy in a parking lot a few months back I am now completely paranoid in parking lots. I mean when you go down a lane with cars on both sides any car could just back out without looking and you could just "happen" to be in the path of that particular car.

So I usually go the long way all the way around the store to avoid those lanes to get straight to the back of the parking spaces and then park a mile away

I've had mine for 4 years now and don't see myself getting rid of it anytime soon. Hell I just got back from driving it to Pittsburgh (1600 mile round trip) no problems.

To the op- Sell the lexus to make room for a gtr....

To the guy having sex in the back seat- I would never subject my car to that. Nice leather seats dont need any fluid transfer hahaha

These cars tend to get under ur skin, but any good car can really, right now if the opportunity came for me to get another car depending on what it was i would probably get it, something much nicer than the I30, that has more power and is RWD aswell as the equal room and comfort to boot. Its not hard to find a better looking car 4th gens have some bland styling, but thats what makes them such fun cars for people that dont see the surprise waiting for them when they think they are a little quick in there newer slicker looking cars.

I've had my fair share of Nissans. started with my first pathfinder in 07, second in 08, then bought my 89 maxima in November of 08, loved taht car, nearly to death. it got to a point where the money I was spending on her monthly to keep her alive was damn near a car payment. So I went out, got a loan, and went hunting. I knew that I liked driving my dads (Nozama) 1995 maxima, so I wnet looking for a fourth gen. I dont know if I'll ever sell my current max, but if I do it'll be for another maxima.

They're just using the opportunity to fool you to go to the stealership, cause your car doesn't qualify, not by a longshot. Not even my 1990 camry v6 qualifies.
