bad cv joint?? only about 3,000 miles?

about 3 months ago i had to replace my passenger cv joint. i just got back from a 250 mile trip both ways and now that im back in town its been clunking/clicking with vibration on the passenger side. i think its very od that it would be going bad after about 3000 miles. i noticed that when i put it in it was kind of a tight fit into the spindle. is it possible they gave me a 96 or below axle? i have a 97. there was a small clicking coming from that side before the replacement but now its LOUD. my other thought is that its the strut mount/bearing. the one i have now is a pull and pay mount so i wouldnt be surprised. oh and the noise starts during left turns.

Is it a consistant click or intermitant click? If it is intermitant, it may be a clunk from the sway arm links.

Did you check your sway arm links? I had clunking from that side and found that both of them were bad. My driver's side one was broke in half on the driver's side, but most of my noise was coming from the passenger's side. As soon as I replaced both, the noises went away.

Check out the write up labeled:

Hopefully this helps

OH and i also lifted up the front of the car up in the air and put it in drive while turning the wheel and there was no sound at all when turning left or right. there was a very very very faint grinding but im pretty sure thats the normal sound of it moving

I ran with my sway arm links making the clunking noise for about a month, so no.

As long as it is not clunking when you are going straight, I think you will be fine.

Do you feel it when you are turning and hitting a bump? That is what mine did.

you should be ok for a while then.

just remember to jack up the whole front when replacing the links.

The parts are about $50 for both of them, so it is a reasonable price for the fix. Be sure to have some PB blaster on hand and some patience while changing them. If the nuts are rusted, you will have a little PITA.

Good luck and if you have any questions, please PM me. I just replaced mine and got some ideas if you need them.
