Zinc primer and rust

Zinc primer and rust
I have some surface rust on my underbody. I want to cover it up before winter. I have this Krylon product that is a primer containing zinc. It claims to stop rust. I was going to spray on before I apply 3M rubberized undercoating. Has anyone had experience with a primer containing zinc? Does it actually work better than a normal primer would?

Yes it can work better but it needs to go directly on bare metal. It will slow rust down compared to standard primer because corrosion attacks the zinc instead of the steel. Once the zinc is gone it goes for the steel again.

+1 on this thread and more info?... good to know, i'm going to be doing my own prepping for a maaco paint job.... (i know maaco sucks, but i'm a poor college student). I have some rust and dents that need a good fixing... i guess i'll be sanding down the rusty areas, applying this zinc primer to the bare metal areas... and then priming the rest of the car with normal primer... rust sucks.
