Oxygen Sensor Replacement

I need to replace the two Oxygen sensors before the cat on the Y pipe on my 1997 Infiniti I30. Is there anything i need to know about the specifics of buying sensors and where i could get them for cheap? Thanks

I would usually always recommend buying OEM for the upstream sensors, great thing about these are just plug and play, with out any worries of splicing. Generally around $80 shipped/ sensor. I would stick with Bosch or Denso. I haven't changed the sensors on my maxima's yet, so not exactly sure on the location of them. I'm sure another ORG member can provide specifics.

Ive bought O2 sensors from Autozone and off of oxygensensors.com. Havent had problems from any of them.

Like nsnrider said, use plenty of PB Balster, if they dont come off easily. And when you go to put the new ones on make sure you use anti-sieze on the threads so they'll come off easily should you need to change them again.

i used universal bosch from amazon($40.11 iirc) and they work good however i would suggest spending the extra $15 or so to get direct oe fit from amazon if you dont like splicing wires.(although the "posi lock" works great)

The Forum FAQs don't tell me anything other than I have to pay to search.

yaknow what, i think that when a newbie registers he should have a tag along button on the page for every page he goes to for searching. Problem Solved.

I bought a Denso oxygen sensor at local parts store a few months ago and it turned out to be like $103. That seemed stupidly expensive and decided to buy the other one online.

sparkplugs.com have the best prices for oxygen sensors. The same OEM Denso oxygen sensor only cost me about $60 shipped. I suggest you try this site instead of any parts store that will cheat you of your money.

How did you guys remove the small plastic clips that secure the wire? There are about 3 of them (per upstream sensor). I'm hoping they can be reused since dealers don't seem to carry them.

Also is there a torque spec for installing the sensor?

BTW Amazon.com has the Denso 234-3098 for under $50 shipped, but there's currently only 2 left in stock. (The caveat with Amazon is that they don't seem to stock too many and their prices change regularly).

There is a tab on the plastic clip that extends out flat agains the surface thats its "mounted" to. Take a flathead screwdriver and squeez the flathead between the clip and were its mounted, push in towards the clip and pry it off...its super easy, and if you break it...zip-tie that $hit...

Bank 1 Sensor 1

Which of the O2 sensors is the Bank 1, Sensor 1 (which needs replacement on my 1997 Max GLE). Is it the

front right
front left OR
rear

Thanks,

If one goes bad do you replace just the bad one or both?

Bank 1 is at rear of engine compartment; Sensor 1 is before the cat. You will have to get this B1S1 from below the car.

I copied this from an earlier post, thought it valid to the convo.

Got an 09-01 the other day. Right front O2 heater. Called around for quotes and the guy at one store said "about 60 dollars". I called the next day and ordered one. He even had it delivered same day from the warehouse in Eugene. When I went to pick it up they tried to get me for $128.00 .
Now I understand that this is "reasonable" for a bosch part from a retailer, but its not what I was qouted.
The owner of the store told me he wished people knew what they wanted before he orders parts and that he was gonna have to eat the shipping. I looked at him and told him I knew what I wanted, the O2 sensor I was quoted $60.00 for. He laughed and told me wasn't going to find it any cheaper. That's when I told him I could get it online for $60.00 shipped, and walked out with my money still in my pocket. You can eat your shipping and choke on it.
Went to rockauto.com and picked up a Denso #234-3098 for $53.17 shipped Priority.
Just installed it after work and runs MUCH better. Real nice looking part. Direct fit (no splicing) and assembled in USA.

Your I30 might use a different part#, but you should find the same kinda deal. Denso OEM fit (no splicing).

Trying to get my car running better and hopefully increase the gas mileage, last week I ordered two Bosch oxygen sensors online for my 95 Maxima SE, bought/rented the socket kit from autozone, and got PB blaster, pretty much everything I need to get the job done, so I thought.

After taking a look under the car and snapping pictures, I did some more research online and am concerned that I'll get started in this job and won't be able to finish it since I have limited tools and experience. I think it is too rusted for me to try this at home and I don't want to damage the headers in the car.

So I'm going to take the car into my mechanic on Friday morning but I was wondering if there is any harm in pre-spraying PB Blaster on the two O2 sensors the night before so that it is easier for him to get it done. The ones I have on there have not been replaced in the whole time I've owned the car, which is 11 years and 120,000 miles.

My specific question is can PB blaster cause anything to ignite if you drive the car with it sprayed on parts still in there, like the O2 sensors?

Nope - you'll be fine.
