call http://www.rockauto.com/, they'll have it for a decent price and will know exactly which one it is if you say bank one sensor 2. honestly, it should'nt be more than 70.00.

just clear your codes, unhooking battery should've done it. re-scan and get back to us.

Code: P0136 | Description: Rear O2 sensor fault--it's the one you pictured, at the cat. is that the one you replaced?

Just as I said, Its the after-cat sensor, hence the "sensor 2". Sensor 2 is after cat for catalyst efficiency (emissions). Both sensor 1s are for A/F control.
The code wont go away until you replace the correct one.

the autozone mang. and max 41 both said that it was the middle o2 sensor.
the sensor is in bank one and sensor two...Not bank two, sensor one.

The main reason i thought it was the 2nd down pipe/y-pipe was that i was getting in the 15-16 mpg range...and i 've already replaced the KS.

Also...check out post #14 on this thread.

http://forums.maxima.org/4th-generat...-location.html

Assuming that pmohr is the supreme and everlasting maxima god that he is, The third o2 shouldt matter if it is bad or not.

standing on the passenger side, looking at the timing chain case, bank one is left, bank two is right. Sensors with a dual exhaust you would have 4 sensors.
B1S1 REAR DOWN PIPE
B1S2 CORRESPONDING AFTER CAT
B2S1 FRONT DOWN PIPE
B2S2 CORRESPONDING AFTER CAT

We dont have dual exhaust, but OBD requires that the after cat is assigned to a bank. Bank 1 is that default bank.

Ordered an NKG/NTK o2 sensor..Installed it.
Cleared the ECU.
Still have 0707 o2 code ..
Moving on to replacing the cat/test pipe o2.

did you take it to a mechanic on the off chance there's a loose wire or another issue>?? hate to see you waste time and money buying a sensor if its something else.

No...i thought maybe the pig tail was bad or not getting power but i circuit tested and multimetered it and it was fine.I'll check the wires again..i don't get it. =/

Not much of a cost deal..the cat o2 is only 39.99 at autozone.
More of this dumb CEL..Its getting very annoying.

Please read my documentation of this issue regarding which sensor is which, I believe I have figured out which sensors are which on my 96 maxima. Take a look at this thread at nissanhelp.org
http://x.nissanhelp.com/forums/maxim...ensor-1-a.html

I did end up putting the sensor that I removed from the front of the engine in the manifold on the back of the engine between the firewall and the engine, and I think drove the car to Schucks, reset my codes and then proceeded to drive the car fairly hard. I have noticed the the CEL seems to come on when I go hills, so I drove up and down hilly neighborhoods tonight and was not able to get the CEL to come back on. I am thinking that I have solved the issue once and for all. Hope this info is helpful to everyone.

Don't mean to beat a dead horse but bank one is cylinders 1, 3, and 5, at the firewall, not 2, 4, and 6 at the radiator. Bank one means 1,2,3 -sensor two means 2nd sensor, its really simple. You really need to replace your after cat and quit messing around. I don't mean to bully or boss, it's just really frustrating seeing people doing a shotgun approach at diagnosing.

Ive used enough scanners and replaced enough O2s to know whats what, unlike some people who read a link from someone else who might or might not know what they're talking about.

I'm just gonna step back from this thread now and see what happens.

Sorry i guess i'm just really hoping its not the after cat.
If its the after cat o2, Im going to have to pay someone to cut a hole in my test pipe and weld a bung into the test and then buy another o2 to fix my cel.

for clarification, are you running a "test pipe" and leaving your after cat o2 just hang in the air? 4th gens are OBDII and will set a code and CEL if your o2 isnt "seeing" a good cat.

I would suggest an o2 bung with the 2 anti fowler trick. Search for it.

anti fowler write-up

This was the best example I could find. I like the idea of using both pieces, rather than just the one like some people do.

I don't like that he's using pieces meant for tapered seat plugs, they should be 18mm washer pieces just like the o2 sensor.
