I have a 1996 with the standard heating and cooling system (no automatic climate control).

Lately the buttons that control where the heat / A/C / defroster ducts have not been functioning. The control of the speed of the fan and temperature control work fine and the little lights underneath which selection is on work, but the vents will not change over.

This especially sucks because the defroster vents are not getting any hot air and I can't see a damn thing. Right now it is stuck on the foot vent...

I'm going to be pulling everything apart soon to see if something came loose, but I wasn't sure if anyone else who has experienced this could add some insight as to what I should be looking for just so I'm more prepared when I do take everything apart.

Did you ever resolve the problem of the vents not switching over? Right now my 1997 isn't switching over. I can't get any air out of the foot vents, it all pretty much comes out of the dash vents. I'm also not getting anything to come out of the defrost vents. For a few days before this happened I would hear a weird noise from behind the glove box of something trying to open and close the vents every time I switched from foot to dash or vice versa. I've heard of an actuator that opens and closes the vents. I'm thinking mine is bad.
