Rear brakes wear before the fronts????????
Rear brakes wear before the fronts????????
Hello everyone.
Just found the board recently and it's great.
My mechanic just replaced the rear brake pads and resurfaced the rotors on my wife's 33,500 mile '99 Maxima.
The shop is a reputable one which I've used for years but I've never heard of rear brakes going before the fronts which he says are in good shape.
Sound logical?

medicsonic said it best...
Who knows, manufacturers defect, they could have been dragging in the back for quite a while but it was never noticed.

Describe how braking performance was, or anything else that was odd.

Braking and performance seemed normal.
Didn't think dealers replaced wear items like brake pads after 33K mileage.
I should have made a call.

I have a 99 se-l 5spd. i had the same problem, i took it to 2 different nissan dealers and they said that the e-brake was holding...they replaced the brakes and serviced the e-brake. i am not sure exactly what they did to fix it but since then I had no problem witht the rearbrakes. have them take a look at you e-brake.
yep...
I bought front pads for my '99 along with my S/S brake lines... Well I got all the wheels off and noticed that after 28K, my front pads had at least 50% still on 'em... feh... replaced 'em with my Metal Lux anyways. When I was putting in the rear lines, I looked at the rear pads and they were almost GONE!!!!
Holy ****! My only explanation is prolly 10 times in those 28K, I was speeding and saw a cop behind me. I used the e-brake to slow the car down so as not to raise the cop's suspicion (no brake lights when u use the e-brake)....
other than that, I haven't really abused the brakes much, as exhibited by the very limited wear on the stock front pads.

Rear brakes 20% FrontsBrk. 30%
96 Maxima GXE 5spd. 80000miles
Just had my tires rotate and dealer said my RearBrks. got 20%left and Front Brks. 30%. Dealer said i unknowingly ride with my e-brakes on. ( with clear conscience i know i donot). Dealer said it is normal case.
