maxima cutting off

what a headache!

96 max with over 240k
i just found out today that one of the many problems my maxima has now includes a electrical one. turns out that some where between the fuel pump and the ecu there is a drop in voltage, as to why sometimes when coming to idle at a stop the car will cut off. what ive been doing is just when im coming to a stop, rev the engine a few times and that keeps it going. however the rpm sometimes will drop so low that the oil pressure light will come on.

has anyone experience this before or have any suggestions on what could be the problem?

How do you know that the voltage drops between the ecu and the fuel pump. To me is sounds like there is something else. Any CEL? if so what you have if none its possible that you might have a bad coil or maybe a faulty maf or wiring that goes to the maf. Also check your iacv make sure its clean, some times it might cause the car to idle low. Also clean your TB if it has a lot of built up it might close to tight and that might effect your idle as well.

Check the Talon forums for a how-to on fuel pump rewiring. Easy to do. Commonly done on talons to keep the fuel pressure constant while under boost. Pump gets wired directly from battery for constant voltage.

Not sure it'll work for a Max but might be worth looking into.

Exactly how much are we talking? Is the fuel pump only seeing ~9.5V? If so, that's perfectly normal under most conditions.

If it's lower than that, have you tested the FPCM?

What exactly makes you assume that it's the fuel pump that's causing your issues? What is your fuel pressure at when it tries to die?

Have you tested the MAF, IACV, and TPS? Cleaned TB/IACV? Have you done any sort of diagnostics to fix this problem? If so, what?

Would've taken less time to google it then ask.

Personally, I would actually do some diagnostics before bypassing a potentially perfectly functioning setup.

well thats what the mechanic at the shop i took my car to told me was happening. since the car was there already there to get one issue fixed with one diagnostic price they had to do another one to atleast find out that info. after that the bill was getting too high for me and i told him maybe some other time ill get that further looked into.

very good questions and points, ill have to get a multimeter and check them out. i was lead to the issue of the voltage dropping from the diagnostic that the mechanic ran on it
