Sputtering Problem

Ok. This is driving me crazy. I have a 95 5spd and everytime i get on it a little it sputters. If i feather it up then hit the gas at a high rpm like 5k it wont sputter but under that it does. I had my codes checked and all i got was KS and the EGR. I bypassed the KS with a 470k ohm resistor but today when i filled up it was just bad.

When i put acetone in it seems to help, i don't know why.

Bad MAF maybe? I unhooked it and the car shut off so I think it is ok.

Spark Plugs are good.

I think the fuel filter is old could that be a possibility?

The car runs fasttt some times and does not have this problem.

It seems to do it worse at the lower revs.

Please help me!

I use 93 all the time and even put 100 a couple of times. I am starting to think its the coil not giving enough spark to burn the fuel and thats why it runs better with the acetone because it requires less spark to burn the fuel then. I need to get a multimeter and check my coils.

What do you guys think?

get a lil MAF cleaner and clean the MAF. A dirty MAF can cause so many problems. A clean MAF makes the car sooooo happy. hehe

That dont help....get a multimeter and test coils resistance. Or perfrom the coil test as per Haynes manual.

Clean TB. DOnt need to remove it to clean it. Jus open the TB, get a shop rag and some TB cleaner and clean the hell outta that SOB.

Using the Mulitmeter check the resistivity of all the sensors that u can reach. Eliminate those first. Because u guys say that the car runs good sometimes...sounds like a MAF issue to me

It only ran good when i put a bunch of acetone in it.

How do i test it? Just unplug and see if the sound changes?

I don't think its the MAF, although it could be.

I cleaned my maf, and the only thing left to deal with is the coils and the fuel filter for me.

I have the same problem. It seems like anything around half throttle makes the engine bog like it's in too high a gear. Nothing major, but just a little stuttering before it smooths out.

The only time I've had a similar experience was with bad coils on a motorcycle. Are 4th gens known to have bad stock coils?

So i just spent 100 dollars on a new coil pack for cylinder #4 and its still doing the same thing! Coil pack 4 was reading like 1.9 2.0 megaohms so i thought that was it.

So then i thought maybe the plug got fouled up because it had no spark. So then i held the rpm at 6k for a while sometimes it went into 'safe mode' where the rpm wont go past 2.5k but it only did this for a second or two.

So is that the MAF? It causes sputtering? When I looked at my MAF before it was clean inside like the metal was shiny... thats how you tell if its dirty right?

grrrrrr!

Well let me help myself then...

From idle wich is sometimes @ 500 and sometimes @ normal idle at WOT it sputters a bit and sometimes if you go WOT from 2k or so you can hear it sputter, im doing all this in neutral.

When it was summer the car was running better which is also pointing to the MAF and only the housing i seen was clean not the sensor.

I am going to clean the MAF and see what happens.

do yourself a favor, buy an fsm and you can self-diagnose some of this w/o guessing and waiting for responses from members. it is the holidays and people are just busy bro, good luck.
