Anybody ever had problems out of there r&p when its cold ? hard to steer when i first crank it up in the mornings. It clears up in like 5 sec though ? Curious do i need to look into replacing the R&P ? I checked the power sterring pump and all that, everything looks good in that department. Man this car is really becomeing a thorn in my side !!!!! Im fixing to sell and move on if i cant fix this issue !

 

Check belt tension, if it's glazed change it as that will cause it to slip.

 

sounds like the morning sickness old GM compact cars used to have. They just needed to replace the rack and all was good.

 

We're not driving GM cars.....

A fuel pump is a part on just about every car on the road.

Tight steering is a symptom which was very common on some 80's GM cars.
The fix was to replace the steering rack.

This IS NOT common on our 4th gens.

Please don't tell somebody to replace their steering rack without guiding them through a troubleshooting process to determine what could be causing the issue.

 

I am very interested in the answer to this as well. My car just developed the same problem. Or at least I think I am getting the same issue. When my car is first warming up there are hard spots in the steering, like it will turn easy then hit a hard spot then get easy and hard and so on and so on.

 

I'm not gonna say it's definitely your rack, but listed below is just some info I found, which goes along with what internetautomar said.
