Apexi Super AFC Questions

Hey everyone. I came across some people's web sites today that had the Apexi AFC controllers in there Maximas. I was wondering a few thigns about it. Hopeing I could get a better idea of what it actually does and what it can do.

I know it adjusts gas and things like that but what does this do for your performance? I mean does it make you quicker by doing this or how does it help you? I know this may seem basic but I tried reading the Apexi page about it and basicly they just said that it was for engine managemnet. I am looking more into it as Maxima Specific.

For those of you that have it ... Did you notice anything? What kind of changes? How does it help? Once it is setup do you constantly have to keep tuning it? Would you get it again?

If this sounds too basic sorry but like I said I am just reading about these more now and curious about them. Oh yeah this would also be something that if I were to use it would be for a NA car. No SC or NOS or anything like that. But I am not planning on getting one soon, I just wanna learn a little bit more about them really.

Thanks

SuDZ

I had the Super AFC on my 97 for over a year. I'm normally aspirated and have your typical mods, ypipe, (had the) CAI, RT cat, (had the) custom catback, also the extrude honed intake manifold (doesn't do much). The Super AFC was a neat trinket but honestly didn't do much. I never had the engine professionally tuned, but my seat of the pants experience said that there was little benefit. I would recommend not bothering with it. Your money and time are better spent on other mods...or on more important things like chix and beer.

Yeah I was looking more into what exactly it did. Nowhere I looked really told me what kind of ways it helped you just that it did management stuff. For instance what did changing the amount of fuel etc do?

If you really adjusted the fuel by say 20% or more in either direction (+ or -), you could definitely see/feel/hear the engine struggle for a few seconds, but then it re-adjusted the air/fuel mixture and ran fine again. The S-AFC is really only for adjusted high-throttle fuel settings, as the ECU cannot adjust for that (just relies on fuel map curves in the ECU). But even in that case, I really could not detect much if any gains. A normally aspirated motor is pretty tolerant of different air/fuel ratios, it seems.

I personally would not buy it again and I am a tinkerer. That's all.
