Engine check light, knock and O2 sensor
Hi y'all,
I had my 'check engine' light pop up on my 1996 maxima w/ about 110k miles on it. After using the exelent ECU decoder tuturial (http://vbxmaxima.8m.com/ecu.html ) I found I had 2 things wrong:
1) Front Right Htd 02 sensor heater
2) Knock Sensor
I believe the knock sensor has somthing to do with the octane of the gas, and lately I've been a cheapskate and only putting in 87 octane gas. could that be the reason for the knock sensor error? and what the hell is the other one? any ideas on how much this is going to cost me and maybe its a do-it-yourself'er? if I take it in its probably best to go to a Nissan dealer to be sure I get the correct parts, right?
any thoughts/help will be appreciated.

Go fill your car with at least 91, reset the check engine light, and you should be fine. I only had my 96 for about 6 months, but I found when I put in low-grade fuel (or fuel the car didn't like) i got the same codes. I had the O2 sensor replaced once (when it was still under the 30-day warranty I got with the car) but then it came back on pretty soon after the replacement, so I figured it must not really have been a problem with the sensor.
Knock and O2 Sensor...
My knock and O2 sensor came on a while back, i drove with it on for a few weeks cuz I was real busy. One day it went off by itself (I didn't reset it after checking it). I finally had time so I took it to the dealer and told them what happened, and what happened when I tested it. So they checked it for free, instead of the 30 dollar rip off price they charge to check it themselves. They said nothing came up, so just reset it and keep watch of it.
Re: Knock and O2 Sensor...
I've had the same MIL for the O2 and Knock sensor - but I've had it repeat itself 3 times after ~12,000 miles. I still get over 430 miles per a full tank. Any suggestions. Should I just change the 02 sensor as the post above suggests?

I've had the Knock sensor and the speed sensor goin off all the time on me. I use only 91 gas, but the engine lights just come back on after a few days. I took it in to my regular guy who didnt find anything wrong, so we just reset it. Lights went on AGAIN, took it to the dealer who said it was a voltage problem and i should replace the battery, that cost 70 bux which i got to use towards a new battery that was like 2x too expensive. Guess what, 2 weeks later, same code. I dunno what to do.
