Headlight Problem

Searched for this in the 4th Gen Section...and only came up with this...but its not helping...hopefully someone can chime in...

http://forums.maxima.org/4th-generat...-out-help.html

I had ordered some HIDs from HIDExtra from the Group Deal Section...it seemed like one of the high beams from the 5000K Hi/Lo Kit didn't work. I took them back out so I can ship back the bulbs.

I put some old light bulbs in (halogen), tried to turn on the headlights and all I got was the Blue Highbeam Light on the dash, and no light output. The high beams didn't turn on (didn't test the bulbs in my other max to see if the other bulbs even work). I try to push the stalk back (or forth) for the High Beam option and the Blue HighBeam Dash Light still stays on (still no light output) When I go back to the low beam mode, the blue highbeam dash still stays on (still no light output). The turn signals, corner lights, fog lights all work as expected.

I've checked the fuses and they're all fine...even tried to reset the fuses, as well as take out the negative on the battery for a while and put it back on to reset the system...

I think this has happened before, but I think i just kept trying to turn the headlights off and on and it fixed itself? (I think). I've tried it several times to no avail. Anybody got any ideas? I've never spliced or tapped into any of the harnesses, just used the plug-n-play HIDs. (Oh, as a sidenote, the HIDextra bulbs worked RIGHT BEFORE I removed them, maybe i'll try putting them back in to see if it works).

I'm also not sure if this is the norm if both bulbs (old halogens) are out, and maxine is trying to tell me so. (lol)?

Hey there 'Dog -- I haven't had this problem with my Max, but did on an Olds a while back. It sounds similar, so here goes ...

You have a troubleshooting guide there for headlites, have you tested any of the items? My best guess ( and on many of the tests) is the light switch itself. On the Olds I was able to take out the stalk and crack it open and fix the contacts. I don't know if that would work for Maxes. If you test the switch and it's bad, either try to fix it's guts or can you get one from a J-yard? New would be pretty expensive.

My headlights have been messed up for a while. I just fixed the problem. I'd check the light switch first. There's a diagram in the fsm about which contacts connect which wires.

If that doesn't work, check the circuits with a multimeter. That may indicate a broken wire or something melted from the hids.

Hope it helps.

ps. my thread, for reference.

*Update*

I just wanted to give an update on this, incase anyone in the future has this problem...

...It seemed to be simple really, one of the bulbs was out. lol

I started off testing one bulb at a time and low and behold, one of the bulbs was out. When I left the working bulb alone in (in either socket), everything was back to normal. When I left the non-working bulb alone in (in either socket), it would give me that blue high beam light on the dashboard.

I'm not sure why it did this...(maybe something was up with the bulb; i mean it seemed fine while looking at the filament) but I just got a replacement bulb, and all is back to normal.
