Does it light up when you turn the key to the ON position?

95 Maximas are OBD-II compliant. All the big parts stores will read codes for you. Or you can do it yourself, even without a code reader, using the method described in one of the stickies. As long as your CEL bulb isn't burnt out.

Try autozone. "The OBD connector is located under the center console on the passenger side. It is OBD-II although not fully compliant."

Yes it is possible to have ghost codes

the ks (knock sensor) is one of them.

Please search for such simple info before starting new threads. You have 3 new threads and most anything you want to know can be found by searching.

Yes its possible. I have a 95 Max as well and I was getting a fuel injection malfunction code when I checked it, but the light wasn't on.

its not "FULL" obd2.... its the first year that they did it and if you look at it under a really good really expensive scantool that tells you pretty much everything that a car is doing, it reads only sum stuff... let me find a better way to put it... its not as precise as say TRUE obd 2

I don't think Nissan used the OBD 1.5 you're talking about. I know Mitshu did. Can you please give an example of the differences (as far as what info is not given with OBD 1.5 that is with 2)? Not trying to be smart, just trying to understand the differences.

Friend of mine has a 95 Buick with OBD 1.5, but he does not have the OBD II port like we do. Our cars should all work with the OBD II Scan tools.

Yea my buddy is. Mechanic for like high end cars. He has a crazy expensive snap on scan tool. I have the 50$ dolla autozone. On his scan tool you can choose to data log and it will tell you the pulse width of your injectors, timing, a/f, voltage, how far open your throttle body is in percentages, honestly pretty much anything your car is doing. When we hook it up to my max. Only a few of those are enabled the rest are just blank. We used it on my gfs car which is a 99 Malibu and it read all that other info. Any way he explained it to me a lil better but it's been a while lol

In 96' it was federal mandate to make all cars OBD II. However, they started using the OBD II set up in 94 in some cars. I think Japan (Nissan, Mistsu, Subaru) all used it since 94'. As far as how much info is pulled would depend on the ECU I would guess. Your buddy's tool sounds nice, I've used them before when working at shops as a tech. Some of those tools also require a 'key' to be inserted to decifer the info from the ECU. If that key is not in place (or you don't have one specific for that car), you will only get the 'basic' readings you are talking about. Not sure if that is the case or not here ... but never the less, sounds like we both have a feel for it pretty good.

edit: I know that Toyota and I wanna say Honda have a very odd connector, not a standard OBD II. Even today! Toyota's are a strange breed too, when you hook up the scan tool to one, provided you can find the propper connector, it gives you all the data that you'd expect - like a full OBD II set up.
