Bought my car pre-lowered with tien Springs
Dude said he liked the suspension tight so i believe he had it set to the tightest but i feel its toooo stiff especially with speed bumps pothole road bumps etc.

he said i you can soften it by turning/spinning/screwing something on the spring or suspension area i'd like to know what and where he's talking about it

 

if it is just on springs, you can't "set" it to the tightest or softest. There's only one setting. If it was a coilover kit that lets you adjust the dampening which is the superstreet or flex, then yes, then you can adjust the dampening on the strut. just go to tein website and you'll be able to find instructions. The tein basic does NOT allow you to adjust the dampening. Or he might have tein springs and adjustable struts not made by tein. We have no way to tell you if this can be done without the brand and model or a pic of the strut

 

Check your struts. If the color of the struts is either red, white, or yellow then they are most likely adjustable.

btw and specifically remember him saying they were adjustable.. Not sayin you guys are wrong or that he's not a liar. Just giving the story at hand.

 

If they are Tokico's then the struts should be white. There are adjustment *****. Lower # on the **** = softer setting.

 

well, gotta remember there is tokico blues too. But the guys are right, if its white(illumina) or red(agx) or yellow(koni), they are adjustables.

 

i have red kyb agx with eibach springs even on the softess settin im still stiff

The Tokico HPs (the blue ones) are not adjustable. The reason the ride is so harsh is the Tein S-techs kill all your suspension travel. I have S-techs on my car and they look great, but performance and ride suck.

 

^ Couldnt agree anymore. I had stechs, stepped up to Ksports....night and daaaay.!

 

So basically I'm just screwed unless I upgrade or get better springs and shocks

tein makes super street coilovers and the flex ones for a 98 maxima??? holy cow... tell me where because i will buy them now! i hate my basic coilovers from them.. they feel great it's just that the back isn't as low as i want it... maybe one more inch.

looking around for struts and springs and saw that tien says the stechs are a 2.2" drop in the front and kinda dont want that low (already have em) then i came across megan springs are these bad springs or not. thinking about using them. i just want a lower car not so much worried about racing or anything just want a daily driver with a lowered sense really.
tooo many terrible roads/potholes/speed bumps/hills/ramps/ always worried scraping and i HATE the THUD feel when i hit a bump on the highway at 65+.

 

The best spring strut combo for the 4th gen is H&R / Tokico Illumina.
Spend a bit more $$$ and try Konis, you will need a set of OE front struts for the Koni cartridge. The rears are a direct replacement.

That's what I wanted too, believe it or not my suspension setup is actually worse than yours, but that "THUD" you hear could be dramatically reduced by the tires you use.

My Michellin PS2s vs. My Potenza S-02s were a night and day difference in ride quality w/o changing the suspension.... In the S-02s I felt every single bump throughout the car, giving it a really rough ride... When I upgraded to the PS2s the ride quality dramatically became MUCH smoother and quieter.

So I assume since you're on 18's your aspect ratio is 35, what tires are you using?

 

yeah i got 18's the tires i have now although in need of new one badly.
are 235/40/18

 

not trying to sound cheap but those H&R springs are $350+ [too steep]

Is it hard to install struts and springs. Is it pro reccomended

 

its easy and should be a good learning experience for you, you will learn a lot

 

Okay but is your easy the same as my easy I'm thinking it's take off wheels and unbolt then bolt back on are there any special things I should know or specific procedures or tools

 

1/2" ratchet set up to a 19mm, axle removal socket, flat wrenches up to a 19mm, spring compressor which can be rented at autozone or any parts store that rents tools, i think that covers it.

 

Just read a simple breakdown on howto. seems do-able. But it says will need an alignment is that becuz it WILL get messed up or it's just a precautionary thing

alignment is recommended after, but they are cheap, no more than 100 bucks. i dropped a previous car and needed an alignment.

 

i had tokico spring and (blue) shocks, then tein s-tech springs and kyb gr-2 shocks, and the energy suspension polyurethane hyper flex kit (upper and lower front and rear control arm bushings, front torsion arm bushings, and bump stops) it rode like a dropped car, but not too stiff.

You have HP's up front. They are stock replacement, just a bit stiffer than the stock Tokicos. You have Illuminas out back. Adjusting them really wont help the ride as you have no suspension travel. S Techs are the worst spring out there. Way low, way soft. ANY spring with more than a 1.5" drop is too much with out shortened Konis. Sell the HPs if they arent already blown and stechs. Get Tokico, H Techs, or H&R springs. Keep the Illuminas if they arent blown other wise toss em. Front Konis shortened are the only way to roll.

 

i would like to get new struts too. what do reccomend for struts
