ds rear caliper ****ed up
ds rear caliper ****ed up
hey I just too off the ds rear caliper and I cannot , when using a C clamp, press the piston back into the caliper. The E-brake cable lever on the caliper does move the piston out though, so it's not seized..but it made a popping sound when I preesed it out too far. Now the lever will only push the piston out but wont draw it back in. It's stuck almost all the way out, and the rubber boot is stretched to maximum. What can be done before buying a new caliper?
BTW, this thing has been sticking in the cold weather. I think I'll need top replace the DS parking cable while I'm doing this.

The rear caliper pistons need to be rotated while pushing them back into the caliper. The piston face has a slot in it; you use a caliper windback tool or a pair of needle nose pliers in that slot to turn it clockwise while pressing it in.

So I just installed new rotors and pads all around, and also installer the subframe collars up front. Sterted it up, and the brake pedal was mushy. I look under the car and there is brake fluid all around the right front tire.
So I tried to tighten the banjo bolt (must have come loose somehow) and broke that *****.
Now I have to wait 3 days before the dealership can stock one.
Keep in mind that you'll need to bleed those brakes as well after you get a new banjo. Also do whatever you can to make sure the master cylinder doesn't go dry while you're waiting for a replacement banjo or you'll have to bench bleed it.
Yes, thank you I figure that out just after I posted, I used to know that but forgot.

The banjo bolt is a common part and should be available local aftermarket. N*PA auto parts stocks all those parts where I live. Just bring your old part with you to make sure. It's not like Nissan actually manufactures bolts anyway. They go aftermarket as well.
