What should I be paying for front brakes and rotors?
What should I be paying for front brakes and rotors?
Got a quote from my local NAPA autocare guy for $300 including tax to replace everything. The rotors can't be cut anymore.
A guy I work with has been using him for 15yrs. and I've used him for the last year as he's local to where we work. Co-worker said up front he wasn't cheap, but that he does do good work at a fair price which I agree with so far. Does $300 sound right?

is there any possible way u can do it yourself? really, brakes and rotors can be had for less than $150 for all 4 corners if you go basic. But, if that quote includes parts, considering it could take over an hour, i guess its not outrageous. but you could really save that money, its an easy job!
new brakes with lifetime from autozone $35
new rotors form autozone $40
less than 2 hours of labor doing it yourself $0
the happiness of working on your own car priceless
For everything else theres mastercard

$25-40 a piece for front rotors
$20-50 for a set of front pads
those ranges depend upon if you get the cheapest you'll find at the parts store, or lean toward the more expensive end of the spectrum.
So that rate he is charging you is not terrible but you could save at least half perhaps two thirds of that quote by doing it yourself. Most shops are $75-100 per hour for labor.

If he doin brakes for the first time with no assistance then they can be confusing.
OP,
300 is a lil high but not terrible. Shdnt be more than $250 unless u goin to a meineke or firestone or some name brand place like that charging 80/hr for labor.
Tell him u broke and ask to do for 250. See what they say

Thanks for the heads up on pricing. As usual, it's the labor. I've got two ruptured disks in my back preventing me from doing anything except watching tv and going to PT, so I'm at their mercy.

My Nissan dealership quoted me $275 for fronts and $275 for rears when I brought my car there for an oil change this past winter.
I just did a full brake job with help of a friend and used Brembo Blanks ($50 each corner for a total of $200) and Nissan Pads ($70 for fronts and $65 for rears).

Brake parts from Autozone are made in China Sh*t. (I will not put any Chinese sh*t parts on my car - I never use them because I wind up doing the job again in 3 months due to those garbage parts wearing out ( I am an aggressive tailgater, so I am hard on brakes - using Chinese parts saves a few dollars up front but you wind up replacing Chinese parts much more frequently due to poor quality/lack of durability). I buy Raybestos pads on line from Rock Auto real cheap and only have have to replace them every 40-50,000 miles. I have a pair of Brembo rotors on the front I bought about five years ago. I've had them resurfaced twice. I haven't touched my rear brakes in over 90,000 miles - I have the stock rotors that came on the car with Raybestos pads I put on about the same time I did the Brembos in the front.
