Power Steering Hose leak
#45
I replaced my power steering pump per my suspicions and the Dodge Dealer's confirmation. I now noticed after tightening the bolts, and including all gaskets (1 rubber for the return and 2 copper for the high pressure) that I exposed a leak from flexing the hose. I believe it is coming from the return line. That spicket that has the two bolts that go into the power steering pump, is that removable and I just buy a measured piece of hose? Or do I need an OEM hose with that attachment already on it? Can someone please provide some feedback?

what kind of hose?
You can get the P/s return house from Napa or any parts house... 5/8" make sure you put that heat shield back on or something equivalent to it do to high heat and possible rubbing. no need to buy special preformed from Nissan. Make sure to tighten those hose clamps and clean fluid off the fittings where the hose goes on before placing hose on them. good luck

Just getting around to this. Myself and a friend of mine seem to have similar problem. Got a hose that's in great condition and some different looking (hopefully better too) clamps (clamps on 99 look different that earlier models).

Issue was always on the 99 maxima. Yeah, i have the screw clamps that was used on earlier generation, got my good condition hose...just need a good day to get this done. In the meantime, im taking out old fluid and replacing with new until the fluid is pure red.

I think I'm on the same boat as you guys.. just got this 99 Max and the p/s fluid is all over the return hose and it's also leaking at the other end as well, closer to the radiator and as a matter of fact, the bottom of my radiator is covered in the fluid too.
I will probably replace the return hose and readjust all the clamps or get new bolt clamps.. my question is, is this a reason to get a new P/S pump??

leak on my 99 SE got a little worse, worked on it today & the return hose at the pump is seeping. replaced the clamp with worm-gear clamp & no difference. so i'll get some ps return hose, 5/8" someone mentioned earlier.
2 feet should do it

def new hose and new clamps too. I find that the 99 clamps eat the fck outta the hoses. Goodluck.
